It's creating eight across the country - and Northampton's will be the largest
Royal Mail says it has acquired a huge new site in Northampton which it will use as a parcel sorting office to cope with extra demand before Christmas.
The centre will open next month and will create around 850 seasonal roles.
Royal Mail is expecting to be busier than ever this year as more online shopping is expected due to the coronavirus pandemic.
To cope, it has acquired eight new, temporary parcel sorting offices across the country. At 280,000 square foot, the Northampton premises is the biggest.
Ricky McAulay, field operations director at Royal Mail, said:
Although the centre does not open until next month, recruitment for the seasonal roles has already begun.“We’re really pleased to base our latest parcel sort centre in Northampton given its great road and transport links.
“We hope that this initiative will bring welcome job opportunities to local people ahead of the festive season, as well as help us to deliver a really special Christmas for everyone this year. It’s been a testing time for so many of us.”
Royal Mail has not yet confirmed exactly where the Northampton centre will be located.
