Masks for indoor work

Dorset Plodder wrote:I find it very ironic that when Covid first kicked off we had some people in our office whinging that Royal Mail wasn't supplying any face masks/gloves/hand sanitiser/antibacterial wipes, and the CWU was crap because they weren't doing enough about it.

When we recieved all the PPE they shut up for a while (although I never saw any of then actually using any of the stuff). :arrrghhh

Then it was mentioned that we might actually have to wear the masks ......... Off they went again giving it, "Nobody going to tell me when I've got to wear a mask..... I can't be expected to wear one of those all day etc etc"

I get the feeling that no matter what you do you'll never be able to please some people. :cuppa
Well you can please some of the people but not all at the same time.

Can you explain to me why you think this virus is such a load of bollocks.
Why would the government (and others) crash the economy thus having to borrow billions of pounds?
If they'd wanted to "control" us why would they have bothered to relax the lockdown once it was in place?
Genuinely interested in your reasoning.

As I've stated before the conspiracy theory argument format is very similar to religious extremism.

It makes any sensible debate pointless because when faced with any flaws in their argument they just point to a higher power that we unbelievers just don't understand.

During historic religious purges or inquisitions scientists and their pesky facts that undermined religion were branded witches and pawns of the devil.

Skip forward a few hundred years...
QAnon is a far-right conspiracy theory alleging that a cabal of Satan-worshiping pedophiles running a global child sex-trafficking ring is plotting against President Donald Trump, who is battling them, leading to a "day of reckoning" involving the mass arrest of journalists and politicians.
Scarily similar..

I truly believe that what we are seeing is the birth of new cults which are usually the building blocks of a new religion, sounds far fetched but then so do all religions.

The same could be said for either side of the debate.

No it couldn't.
It isn't a debate.
That would suggest that there were two positions with equal merit both backed up by science. That is clearly not the case.

Yes it could.
These conspiracy theories stem from the 200 yr old debate on germ theory vs terrain theory. Germ theory tells us that germs invade our bodies from the outside while terrain theory tells us that these conditions are caused by toxins in the things that we eat, breath and drink including things that are injected into us.
Germ theory is treated by expensive drugs/vaccines while terrain theory involves us taking more care in what we put into our bodies to keep us healthy.

There hasn't been a 200 year debate about germ theory vs terrian theory except in the deluded minds of one side.

Terrian theory was completely debunked as pseudo scientific bunkum even in the time of it's creator the crackpot Antoine Béchamp but as I've already pointed out I'm sure there's something hazy and just out of reach of explanation that I'm not getting.

Germ theory deniers, climate change deniers, holocaust deniers always have something up their sleeve that 'no-one gets' when everything else gets debunked and a dark conspiracy backing it up.

I can already feel yours oozing out of the cracks, I take it "big pharma" has all the important scientists in their pay only leaving those "quirky" free thinkers to champion the cause of terrian theory... am I right?

Just to get back on topic and to answer a question on the locked thread.
As of Monday masks are to be worn , does this mean the sorting frames will be reopened as Christmas is coming because its going to be chaos without it .
Company policy.
Is there any advice for people who cannot avoid working within 2 metres of each other?

The current guidelines for social distancing form part of wider measures to minimise risk by following preventative guidance including hand hygiene, and the use of wipes and disposal gloves. Temporary changes to some operations processes include one person per van, staggered shift times and no requirement for PDA signatures remain in place. For specific roles where the 2 metre distancing is challenging masks are being issued. More generally if employees choose to wear a mask they are available and guidance on use and disposal has been shared.
In addition to the preventative measure outlined and in situations where there are tasks that mean the 2 metre social distancing cannot be achieved, employees should consider the guidance recently issued by the UK Government which guides employees to work side by side or facing away from each other rather than face- to-face if possible. This guidance does not change other preventative measures in place but is an additional measure relevant to identified specific tasks only where the two metre distancing can’t be achieved and should not be used as a means to have more employees working together in limited spaces.
Couldn't really be any clearer.
Masks should not be used to bring in normal working practices.
