Flexiplan and Bonus Plan Transfer

Yes, but the point is that the PSC aren't always giving out answers that tally with what's on the website or are giving different answers to different people. Which bit of that don't you understand?
This is a letter I received from them that says I can stop paying into Bonusplan as long I'm prepared to cease my membership of the RMPP:

Flexiplan and Bonus Plan Transfer

Post by Hawkey99 »

Full text of email received last week......

As AVC’s aren’t my area I have found the following information out for you, as didn’t want to give you any wrong information.

Your options are as follows:

Flexiplan:
Take your remaining AVC funds with the NRA65 pension benefits (depending on HMRC limits)
Transfer out your AVCs. (this can be done from anytime but is advisable to cease contributions before requesting this to avoid leaving a residual fund invested)
Purchase an annuity (25% tax-free option given to the member)
Continue AVC being deferred. (leave it invested until a later date after taking your NRA65 pension)

Bonusplan:
Take your remaining AVC funds with his NRA65 pension benefits.

The funds that were in place when you took your NRA60 benefits and not utilised haven’t been crystallised they just add to the amount available when you do decide to take them.

Hope this answers your query.

Even more confused now.........

Flexiplan and Bonus Plan Transfer

Just to be clear and sorry to labour the point but am I right in thinking that you can transfer all your Flexiplan AVC contributions to another provider for drawdown so long as none of it has been used to fund your lump sum for NRA65 benefits ?

You can transfer your Flexiplan and/or Bonuslan independently of taking your NRA60 or NRA65 benefits.
So if you take all of your pension at age 60 for example, you could transfer your Flexiplan at 59 and your Bonusplan at 61, or any age up to 75.

If you do transfer your AVC's, normal DC pension rules will apply to that money once it's in your personal pension. So only 25% is guaranteed to be tax free with the remainder being classed as income.

From a tax point of view, most people will be better off taking their AVC's with their NRA60/65 benefits as more of it is likely to be tax free. But as always, it'll come down to personal circumstances.

Personally, my AVC's are over 25% of my total pot value so i plan to transfer my Bonusplan into my personal pension to reduce the amount of tax i pay.
If i kept it with RM to take with my NRA60/65, I'll pay around £3,500 tax on it, based on current values. But by transferring it into my personal pension and drawing it down along with the other savings in there, I probably won't pay any tax at all.

Flexiplan and Bonus Plan Transfer

Reply received today from PSC....

IF the AVC is taken with your NRA65 benefits then the whole pot has to be used as part of your Crystallisation event. This means that any excess AVC has to be used to either provide an annuity or an UFPLS (Uncrystallised fund pension lump sum where 25% is tax free and the other 75% is taxed using PAYE principles). It is not possible under this option to transfer out the excess AVC.

IF the AVC does not form part of the NRA65 benefits and is treated under a separate crystallisation then it can be used either as an annuity, an UFPLS or it can be transferred out.

That seems to clarify things....I hope....
