pension supplement
Hi all , can somebody who's left royal mail before aged 60 , in my case 57 , and took their age 60 benefits only, are you entitled to the supplement, as i retired in january this year and am not receiving any, so I've called the helpline various times and keep getting different answers, the last person said i don't get the supplement till I'm 60, be grateful for any help before i ring back.

I have no personal experience of this, but as long as you were in section C and have left RM employment, then you should be getting the supplement in relation to the benefits you've taken – reduced because you've taken them before normal retirement age. It should then stop when you reach state pension age.

All the documentation I've seen makes no mention of the 60 cut-off point but equally does not state you are entitled to the supplement before 60. Perhaps you can ask them to point you in the direction of the documentation supporting their claim because I have not found it. I retired last year @ 60 and am in receipt of the Pension Supplement.shergar7 wrote:Thanks for reply , that's how i read it , but the lady this morning said you don't get it till your 60 ! i.ll ring again and see what reply i get this time , it seems it depends on who you get at the other end of phone , which i poor really.

Taken from the RMPP website:
At one time there was a calculator on the website which included the supplement and the amount you were entitled to was different when imputing different early retirement ages(between 55-60).
So unless something has changed, it sounds to me as if there could be a few answers to your query:
Someone on the helpline doesn't really know their stuff.
They think you're still employed by RM.
The supplement is actually included in your monthly pension payment, without you realising?
I agree with Beamish, that it doesn't really say one way or another. But both NRA60 and NRA65 benefits have a supplement 'attached' to them, so if you take your NRA60 benefits then you should get the supplement, reduced if taken before NRA.If you joined the Plan on or after 1 April 1987, you’ll get an extra amount of pension each year. This is called the Pension Supplement and you will receive it if you take your Age60 or Age65 benefits before you reach your State Pension age. It is only paid if you are not employed by Royal Mail Group and it will stop when you reach your State Pension age. See the ‘Guide to your pension benefits’ for more details.

This interests me as I'm 9 weeks away from turning 55. My calculations are based on the supplement being paid at 55, albeit with 25% reduction.
Hopefully someone can clarify with some certainty.

pension supplement
Today I've received my retirement benefits pack and I can confirm that the pension supplement is included in the total figure.
Example.
Monthly pension £500
Pen supplement £100
Total pension £500
Pension at (say) age 67 = £400
It does actually show the amount too, so you know what you lose when you reach State Pension age.

I know I'm a year behind but is there a definitive answer to the entitlement to a pension supplement pre-60?
My statement states I will be entitled to one of 700£ 'if I leave royal mail' - Which I have.
After informing rmsps of this I received a letter simply saying my record has been updated
Thanks in advance

Reached at least 55 years of age
Taken at least some of your RM pension entitlement
Left RM employment
Were a section C member
then you should be receiving the supplement associated with the pension benefits you've taken.
The RMSPS website(FAQ's) states:
My advice would be to double check all the paperwork associated with your pension, and then if you're still sure you're not receiving the supplement when you should be, make a formal complaint in writing. Contact info here: https://www.royalmailsps.co.uk/contact- ... -complaint" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The pension supplement is payable to Section C members (those who joined between 1 April 1987 and 1 April 2008). It is paid if you retire before State Pension age and not in Royal Mail employment or if you retire early from Royal Mail, but before your State Pension age.

Thanks a lot Robert T!
You seem to be the Go to guy for pensions so sorry to burden you with this.
The only anomaly in my case is I left for 5 years from 1995 and on my return in 2000 I linked the 10 years and got transferred-in service.
But I have it on cabinet office stationery that I will be entitled to a pension supplement if I were to leave.
I'll bide my time another couple of weeks because of Covid etc.-it took 4 months to get a New tax code and accompanying refund.
Cheers
Bob

pension supplement
My paperwork includes pension supplement if I leave rm (58).
I was told it is paid via capita as part of the nra60/rmsps pension.
From what rmpp told me the supplement had nothing to do with them and was funded only by the rmsps.

Best of luck getting the pension supplement.I have been receiving my nra60 benefits since march 2019,on my 60th birthday, from both rmpp and rmsps ( capita ).I left royal mail last xmas eve so was expecting to receive pension supplement next pay day ,no such luck.Numerous phone calls and emails to capita and 7 months on no joy.Speaking to capita they agree I should be getting it plus the arrears. The people on the phones keep telling me they will escalate it to the appropriate department but I cannot speak to that department. In the meantime they say that the supplement is being processed but they have now suspended my monthly pension until payroll sign it off !You couldn't make it up.So totally hacked off with capita and at a loss what to do next apart from the complaint procedure which takes more time.

Thanks for your comforting saga! Does that mean you are without income?
It was for me a pretty mind blowing exercise sussing everything out before taking the plunge and it hasn't been easy since taking the plunge.
When I received my p45 an attached letter stated the psc would be automatically informed of my departure -it seems they were not.
On the hmrc advice sheet in the retirement pack it says hmrc will get in touch with us to ensure the correct code - they did not.

####TO FUTURE VISITORS TO THE PENSION FORUMS####
in psychological distress? Ccnfused?mental health issues?-well welcome to the club!Read Bugsins tale above and I have been through exactly the same. I did formally complain to capita whereas It should have been aimed at royal mail as even though I have a letter telling me the pension centre is automatically informed when I ceased employment, it was not .This stalled the pension supplement process altogether-both rmpp and rmsps.
When I started in 1984 numerous people told me you are in one of the best schemes in the UK. 25 years later it had the biggest black hole in the UK and now (just browse through the other pension strands) It seems to be administerial chaos. Still, after 36 years +9 months (20 on a pushbike) of sunstroke, frostbite and countless drownings I am now in receipt of my full (reduced for early payment) benefits.
