Police are renewing an appeal for information after the death of a Royal Mail lorry driver in a major crash on the A2, and officers now want to speak to one particular driver who may have seen the incident.

Collision investigators have been investigating a two-lorry collision on the coastbound carriageway near Dartford/Darenth around 4:20am on May 28.

Inspectors say a Citroen C4 crashed into a central reservation barrier moments before the two lorries, one with a white trailer and another with a red trailer, collided.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, and a man in his 30s from Medway, reportedly a worker for Royal Mail, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The lorry crash took place about a mile before the exit for the M25, causing major delays throughout the day.

An air ambulance landed on the London-bound carriageway, and police later arrested the driver of the Citroen, a man in his 20s, although he has since been released without charge.

Making a renewed appeal for witnesses and information, police have revealed that a witness has since reported that a HGV briefly stopped behind the red Citroen before travelling away from the scene.

Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit would now like to speak with the driver who stopped behind the Citroen. Officers believe they may have important information that can assist with their enquiries, including onboard cameras may have captured the collision.

The driver, and anyone else with information that is yet to get in contact, is asked to call 01622 798538 quoting AH/SW/46/20. Alternatively, email sciu.td@kent.pnn.police.uk
