Royal Mail is asking customers to give their postie a ‘thumbs up’ from a two metre distance, as part of an enhanced social distancing drive and opportunity to show appreciation for staff
Following the amazing show of support for key workers, Royal Mail is calling on the public to show their appreciation and protect their postmen and women.
Royal Mail staff continue to work throughout the coronavirus pandemic, practising contactless delivery to minimise their risk of contracting the virus.
Now, the company is asking customers to give their postie a ‘thumbs up’ from a two metre distance, as part of an enhanced social distancing drive.
The move comes as postmen and women across the UK have been inundated with thank you messages and pictures from children and customers.
It is hoped that the initiative will allow the public to say thank you and stay connected with their local postmen and women, while respecting the Government’s social distancing rules.
Giving a thumbs up is also a reminder not to reach out to try and take parcels direct from postmen and women to ensure contact free delivery.
Ricky McAulay, National Service Delivery Director for the Royal Mail Group, said: “We know how much people like to say hi or have a chat with their postie on the doorstep.
“During this time, we need to find new ways of staying connected whilst also protecting our communities.
“We hope that giving a thumbs up is a handy way of reminding people to keep a safe distance when we are out and about delivering the post.”
With the country observing Government advice to stay home, for many people their local postman or woman may be one of the few friendly faces they see each day.
The delivery of letters and parcels is also an important way to keep connected for those who may be unable to leave their home.
But it is hoped that by launching the ‘thumbs up for your postie’ initiative, people can continue to see a friendly face while staying safe.
A move that has received support from Health Secretary Matt Hancock.
As well as giving their posties a friendly thumbs up when they see them, Royal Mail is asking customers to share selfies with their thumbs up using the hashtag #ThumbsUpForYourPostie.
Royal Mail has also created a ‘thumbs up’ template, that is available to download via their website, for children to create their own artwork to say thank you.

Should RM really be encouraging the public to engage with the postman?

Always keep the height of a postbox away from the postie. Who ever came up with that line needs either sacking or shooting.

The company ask the public to give the postie a thumbs up, while the company give the posties a two fingered salute!
Royal Mail
failing the workforce, failing the public and deliberately failing mail on a daily basis for too many years.

I don't know what it is about this idea that peeves me so much.
Is it the fact they've disregarded the Union in this?
Is it because they're jumping on the bandwagon of public appreciation?
Is it because by doing this, they think they can distract from the real issues?
Or is it because they've invented another crap hashtag?
In fact I think I've just invented an new acronym: YACHT -Yet Another Crap Hash Tag.
Anyway, here's my hashtag to you:

What's worse is Alan Johnson's gurning face at the end , suggesting the ex CWU leader is behind the company.

This is RM`s pathetic attempt to keep the work force happy and not asking for a pay raise or bonus for our hard work.
