Spoke to an Amazon courier today.

Post by Ren Hoëk »

I spoke to an Amazon courier today as I watched him knock on a door and once he realised someone was in, Placed the packet on the floor. He then walked away and stood and watched the person pick up the item. When I asked what that was about he mentioned it was to do with Carona Virus. That they have been told that nobody is to touch their PDA but them and keep distance from customers. He also told me they have been given wipes to clean the van at the start of the day and that they have all been given hand gel.

Royal Mails response has been pathetic. The silence is deafening.

It's unlimited sick leave *without* pay. Not nearly as generous. They get two weeks pay if they have to quarantine but that is it.

Signing for and receiving items
In order to protect both our people and customers as much as possible, we will not be handing over our hand-held devices to customers to capture signatures. Postmen and women will instead log the name of the person accepting the item. This will apply to Special Delivery Guaranteed, Tracked 24/48 with Signature and Signed For services.

Additionally, for all customers (including those who are self-isolating) where we need to deliver any parcel that won’t fit through your letterbox, we will place your item at your door. We will then step aside to a safe distance while you retrieve it. This will ensure your item is delivered securely rather than being left outside.

If you are unable to come to the door at all we will issue a ‘Something for You’ card, advising of other ways you can arrange to get your item. For example, by getting a friend or family member to collect the parcel from our local Customer Service Point on your behalf.

Why have we not been shown this video? Then again it might have been shown, everyone’s talking, laughing & shouting in our working time. :thumbdown

This seems a sensible precaution. I wonder if they will mention this in the brief tomorrow morning?

No it really isn’t. You get full sick pay for up to 6 months if necessary. If you are required to isolate yourself RM will pay you and it is a wage that eclipses what Amazon pay its workers.

Shame the video and the above statement contradict each other.
The video says doorstep and wait for customer to retrieve item only for those that declare themselves as self-isolating, otherwise hand over as normal but no signature.
The statement says doorstep and wait for customer to retrieve item for all instances of items too big for letterbox.

What about recorded letters, grip them in the letter box so they don’t blow away?
