Why postie steal?

Just been reading another news report about yet another postie caught stealing. According to the report i read, this bloke been in the business since 1977, and has been stealing out of letters for a year. He stated that due to pressure of the job and the fact that you can't have a laugh or joke anymore was part oof the reason he did what he did. I am just wondering what has cause a bloke to risk a 29year service, a penson, and his freedom to steal a mere $1000 or just over? I mean is the workload and pressure gonna be that bad that people are gonna do worse then steal. I had nervous breakdown and collapse on my round last year. How much worst can it get? I personally think that those above should take a look and think about why people are going off sick and why people with long service started stealing.

It is wrong to steal. If posites or managers have financial or domestic problems they should go a seek advice before things get out of hand. I have noticed that in the past 8 years alot of posties are unhappy, nobody seems to smile any more, they hate coming to work because they feel devalued. This type of atomosphere would make any postie depressed or suffer from stress. Posties use to enjoy working for the company, but things have really gone bad that posties are doing stupid things that causes them to lose their jobs. If you are feeling down get professional help.

This is were ATOS Help..... But RM when it comes to an Attendance problem from any other issues like stress caused by them then they always say they take ATOS and the RM DRs point on board.... In My view i feel its bollox..... RM just take on board wot they think they can get away with.....

Personal issues give me my point of view but i would like to know if any others feel the same and in reason would like to know the outcomes of the facts that RM work on and how they treated you????

I feel for people under stress as this aint a joke when RM dont listen.....

Even when ATOS suggest a course of treatment, RM still penalise you. I had a breakdown a year and a half abo, and am still on a high dose of Antidepressants now. ATOS suggested CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), but RM have messed me about over it.

At first they allowed me the time off to go to the appointments, but later, told me that I had to make the time up. After much messing about, I am now on Earlies 1 day a week, and my normal Late Shift for the remainder of the week!

It was even worse when I was on Sick Leave, as they were phoning twice a week. They left me in such a state, that I wouldn't even answer the phone, or the door.

All this from an employer who claims to care for "their People". Yeh, right!

Andy mate i hear ya... Im in much the same boat.... The Bastards HAVE to give you time off to see EHS/ATOS... Not make you work the time back or change your shift to cater for your councillings.... I went to the same seshs and My union rep told my DOM and then after MCM i wa going to make my self better from THERE HARRASMENT AND BULLYING... BASTARDS... I hope things get better anbd if you want a chat anytime... PM me mate....

Unfortunately, ATOS only recommended that I try this type of treatment. It is provided by the NHS, and according to the managers, I am NOT entitled to anything beyond the actual duration of the appointment. No travelling time at all, and if I need any more time off, I have 3 options:
1) Annual Leave (already used up mostly for appointments)
2) Unpaid Special Leave (adds up to a LOT of money over the course of treatment)
3) Make time up, or change Shift for the day when the appointment is!

When I mentioned that I had, had some Legal Advice about my rights, I was threatened with B&H proceedings, because I hadn't exhausted the internal procedures. These take a Month, and I didn't have time before the treatment started. And they will support them, as they are following RM proceedures!

Apparently, he felt threatened by the fact that I had been to see a Solicitor. But a moment later, he told me that he isn't afraid of Solicitors, as he has the might of RM behind him! Is it just me, or is he contradicting himself?!?

I have also been told, that NO-ONE is covered by the DDA, unless RM have something in writing from a Doctor to confirm that you are telling the truth! Also, according to him, the DDA states that they only have to make allowances for your treatment plan, or other problems at work, so long as it doesn't effect the Business!

All I want, is to get the treatment that I need, without having to ask my Wife to rearrange her Shift Pattern to have someone to look after my Daughter, and get her to School, or loosing a lot of money. Is that REALLY too much to ask?

According to the manager, I am being unreasonable. And they are going out of their way to accomodate me!

What do you think?

So I think you`ve been ripped off big style in the first place having to take annual leave to attend your treatment for a start.

I have heard about a manager type person whos apparently stolen some money for the firm, the firm allergely couldn't find the missing money, anyhow the local paper of the area ot wind of this and within mere hous of the paper going out, it was allergely found in a black bag at the back of the building. The allerge manager in question was suspended with full pay and was allowed to come back to work. Saying that to all the managers lurking this is a story i have heard and by no means am i saying that this happen my back is therefore covered.

Regarding Atos when i was off sick not one person sent me any communication or been to see me to see whether i was ok. Atos was sending the appointment to see me but the appointment was to go 300miles down south, apparently the another postman who shares my name, and was off for simelar reason, he got letters telling him to go 300miles north. weird but true. My manager didn't put my hours to 30 till after xmas last year, yet the others went up at least 6 months beforehand, nice to know folks give a s**t isn't it.

twoloops has got form for dragging up years old threads, and considering:

I get changed out of my RM uniform when I leave work, thankfully I live a good distance away from the office, I would be so embarrassed if my neighbours knew I was a postman

they seem to spend an awful lot of time searching through the board resurrecting pointless old threads about a role they're embarrassed by.
