Plenty of managers on here, stirring the pot...if you want to vote no then do it, but don't start crying when your terms and conditions are changed, and that includes no overtime

Not Managers but posties who can see the company has to change, if the union won't change their stance the company is doomed. Don't they understand if the company goes under there will be no union.Whysoslowyehcfc wrote:Plenty of managers on here, stirring the pot...if you want to vote no then do it, but don't start crying when your terms and conditions are changed, and that includes no overtime

Mail volumes are dropping and it's now only a very small percentage of letters that are genuinely 'important' and time sensitive.
There is scope for the business to be 'streamlined' and for jobs to go via a reduction from 6 days to 5 days and I think the union should acknowledge and accept this fact and instead be using it's power to agree to the best possible VR terms for those who are willing to go whist ensuring that those who stay retain their current levels of pay and T&C's
And the best way to strike is an overtime ban, not 1 day out & then back in to catch up & then 1 day out then back in & so it would continue. RM cannot cope without overtime, they can cope with 1 day out, also can you cope with losing a days pay each week, four days less pay each month at least, oh well maybe the bank will wait for the mortgage payment this month & next month......
As for the 'important' letters, they could still be delivered next working day if they're stamped/franked First Class... We have so few of them now they could still be delivered alongside the pkts on the 'non-letters' day.
The day that will be chipped off from USO will be the monday. Businesses get most of their post already sorted at the weekend on the monday, so would go out with collection drivers . That's why more jobs are being advertised for Tuesday to Saturday shifts. It will be Tuesday to Saturday for letters/parcels. That's where the redundancies come in because everyone will have their own duties so no more reserves/ floaters (all the s**t) left will go out on lapsing). Tuesday will become the heavy day as only big and medium sized companies will get a monday delivery ( maybe for a surcharge). Let's face it RM are the only company who can deliver properly and if they had half decent management, they could run the other so called mail companies into the ground but also have a noose round their necks with regulations that no other company would accept or indeed be able to work with. I still don't understand why RM don't cut their business post costs and make the likes of UK mail go under. Surely they should be approaching the nhs, banks and the utilities to offer massive savings to these companies, while still making more than they do for delivery of the so called final mile.

Letter volumes are falling overall nationally, but not everywhere. I've been in the job 5 years now and year on year mail volumes have done nothing but rise in my office, not to mention the amount of new residential addresses being hastily thrown up all over the country. We're due about 3000 or 4000 new homes in my town alone over the next few years. Royal mail and the union need to start working area by area rather than trying to blanket the whole country with "mail is dropping".

So many misinformed people posting on here it’s laughable. If you don’t want a job or want zero hours in the future the crack on you wasters. The reason it was overturned was because the judge is anyi-union. (Google him) it was all because of the impact it would have had on the general election. Posties have always taken mail from frames, where you are when you tick that box matters not

Mail is dropping, but that's not the same as your area needing more duties to cover an increasing workload.Chewster wrote:Royal mail and the union need to start working area by area rather than trying to blanket the whole country with "mail is dropping".

The CWU ‘s advice is vote yes but vote in the comfort of your own address !number one wrote: Posties have always taken mail from frames, where you are when you tick that box matters not
So the advice from the CWU is wrong?
I can take my ballot paper from the frame at work and vote in the workplace?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

In a way you're right but for the wrong reasons.where you are when you tick that box matters not
What actually matters in the legal sense is that the union does not encourage members of staff to open their ballot papers in the workplace, that's the unlawful part and that's the part they got so wrong the first time.
Actively encouraging members to post videos of themselves on the CWU website voting in the workplace was the legal framework the court used to disqualify the ballot. Whether it was politically motivated was a moot point because the ruling was based on law (read the judgment) . It was the act of encouragement that broke the law not the act of voting however members have to remember that opening any mail even your own before delivery is still technically a security breach. That mail doesn't actually become yours until after delivery.
Whether it's common practice or not is something you would have to take up at an employment tribunal lucky dip.

They won't just make anyone redundant, if jobs are to go the business does not want rid of the (mostly part-time) reserves.
That would leave us with a huge imbalance in workload/hours that the business has just spent at least 10 years trying to get rid of by employing part-time staff against full-time jobs.
They'll want rid of full-time staff mainly and the only way to do that is natural wastage or voluntary redundancy. I'm not saying the VR terms will be as sweet as they are now but they'll be enough to tempt enough staff to go, especially if what's left isn't worth hanging around for.

No one should be relying on OT to justify voting no, yes things need to change but it has to be negotiated not enforced and more importantly it has to be a two wat streetaiden01 wrote:Not a manager an never will be so please stop accusing people who have different views ffs. well, as I said before aiden its completely your choice. I am voting yes because I don't want to see them implement everything on us that they see fit. they are implementing executive action at certain offices NOW, and this is when they think the union has the backing of the workforce. can you imagine what they will do if they KNOW the union has lost its backing?
