New starters

We’ve just had yet another new starter leave after just three days in the job. They came in on their first day to a broken down van, had to use a trolley instead - meaning doing the round in a different order to the frame, and then got told they needed to be back by 1 o’clock to do their drivers training course!!! No pressure! Manager didn’t even ask the poor sod if they were able to stay on for 3 hours overtime to do the course. I guess it sets the standard of management really, so they know what to expect.

Shamefull to say the least,I thought everything is fine just like on rmtv? Oh sorry I forgot they were actors!...... clearly,pitiful state of affairs on any sort of training if any,and wonder why people leave,

I still like and enjoy the job but I wouldn't recommend being a postie to anyone as a new career.

The biggest problem for new starters (and others) is the lack of information regarding finish times, they have no idea when they will return to the office or the procedures if they don't complete the duty at the set finish time. Finish times are not disclosed by management for obvious reasons. Victorian attitudes to employee engagement.

Worked at another office and one guy had been in 15 year and didn't know his finish time. Thought it was half hour later so never claimed until then. Wonder how much money he's lost over the years.

This is the major issue with the company I find. There is NO training; you're thrown into the deep end and you can either do the job or you can't. People who could be decent with a little extra support just quit because that support never arrives. It's quite sad at times to be honest.

Only gonna get worse. We struggle to complete a 4hr 30 duty. And with all the talk of increasing outdoor further. Imagine what it's like for a new start. They get absolutely no time to adjust or increase fitness levels.

I had to do my driving assessment after a full day on my own in new area (2nd time on that walk), which was 10 miles away. Turned into a 12 hour day and I obviously had no time for lunch. Part timer btw.

The problem is the people at the top regard this as an unskilled job that anyone could just come in off the street and do ,'What,s difficult about walking around putting letters through peoples letter boxes',that's the attitude they have and in my experience so do most of the general public.

Think I've been lucky at my depot

My poor workplace coach really did earn his money. Anything I did wrong he got blamed for

Even now, & I've been there over 7 months, if I say or do something stupid I'll get asked who trained u? I tell them & they say that explains it

He really gets some stick it's all done & taken in good fun though

I had a really good time when I was training

I got taught all the important things like the best spots to hide when ur killing time & which door is best 2 use when u get back so the management don't c u & send u back out
