Hey. I am a new starter. Last week was my 1st one and I find it quite busy. No break really and I am aware of 40min break we are allowed. Hopefully it will get quieter. Even Saturday looked no different to Friday at all.

Its not based on contract hours, its based on daily attendance.norris9 wrote:40 min break? what weekly hours are you on?blacov wrote:Celgar wrote:I am talking about the office I work in but it is evidence that this week has been very busy. Ok 6th week as new starter 25 hr week. I keep being told that only my first wave of sequence and part live will be thrown off for me. This leaves 1 box of sequence and a majority of live mail. Plus the door 2 door then 2 or 3 bags of packets. Which the driver says it is too late to give him any. Then I have to tie up I’m on a hct walk which takes 3 hrs 40 at least including walk out and back all this in 4hrs 30 mins if I take off my meal relief. Which by the way I’ve not had since I started. It’s madness.

Quite disgusting but I'm not at all surprised. I don't think think our walks are really suited to being part time jobs.rparko wrote:Ok 6th week as new starter 25 hr week. What do you mean daily attendance? I work from 6 30 till 9 30 in the office then I am out till 14 00 or 14 30.

So 8 hours expected attendance entitles you to a 40 minute or 2 x 20 minute breaks.

Yes i know but never had any break really. i am o training still and i know if i am not gonna get any faster there is no chance for a break and my partner will rather come back half an hour late or even an hour but to complete everything we could. Today I did well over 9 hours and had no break. I fine with odd day like that If I am paid for it because technically I should be paid for my break and extra time I've spent on duty. Am I right?TrueBlueTerrier wrote:

Yes you should be paid for your break, and any overtime, as long as you take a break and the overtime is agreed with management.

Due to the FA Cup being on we had more work to do. In nearby offices where they usually do overtime to clear the office posties were refusing to do it because they wanted to watch the football.

Do you guys back off when a dog is loose and barking at you, not matter what breed?
or do you just carry on walking up to the house/owner to hand over the post like the dog isn't there?
Is there anyway to calm these dogs down so they know you are no threat?

Dog loose, barking or not, I'm marking the mail as dog loose and walking on past. I don't go to work to get bit, not taking the chance.
Why would you want to calm it down? You're a postie, not a dog whisperer. If the owner can't be considerate enough to be responsible then they don't get their mail until Rover/Fido/Satan is safely the other side of the door.
Don't worry about it, really. Put your safety first and, remember, a nasty dog attack is a f***ing life changer.

Sooner or later, a beat dog bites.

At first I used to go in if it was small or used to stand near it to see how it would react. But it’s just not worth it, even with the round I’ve been on a while now and I know the dogs, if it’s out mark it off as dog loose and try again tomorrow. You’d never forgive yourself if you got attackednorris9 wrote:Do you guys back off when a dog is loose and barking at you, not matter what breed?

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
