You know it a light day when you have to double check your bag to see if any mail fell out. I only worked 5 hours 15 today. easy 4.30 if i didnt have work time learning or late mail.

We all pretty much worked right up to time. The office even had cut offs!

Went an hour over, cut off 2 loops and absorption.

We had a busier Tuesday than normal as well plus extra absorption due to sick leave. Seems like the A5 sized catalogues we used to get on Tuesdays have come back. It was fairly obvious RM had been holding back the flow of mail for a few weeks to help justify their new proposals.

Right then,

It was raining for most of the day today in our neck of the woods; just peeing down. And breezy, too. The temperature was colder than it's been in the past week or so.

The letters and packages were the usual soggy mush, and the speeding traffic on the streets would splash into large puddles by the curbs, showering filthy water all over the posties while they walked with their heavy pouches slung over their shoulders.

I felt so bad about it all, as I was standing in my warm, cosy apartment and holding a cup of delicious coffee while looking out my window. On my day off. :cool

Womp, womp. :Boo hoo!

Right then,

I was back at work today, and this was playing on the radio in the Royal Mail van...

I think the words of this Gerry Rafferty song are quite appropriate to the job we do. If you screw up when delivering, don't worry. You'll get it right next time.

"Out on the street, I was talking to a man,
He said, there's so much of this life of mine that I don't understand,
You shouldn't worry, I said, that ain't no crime,
'Cause if you get it wrong, you'll get it right next time, next time.

You need direction, yeah, you need a name,
When you're standing in the crossroads every highway looks the same,
After a while, you can recognize the signs,
So if you get it wrong you'll get it right next time, next time..."

Heard it too, but did you stop for Popmaster? :Very Happy

Actually, I was humming along to the tune, then some ads came on, and then I jumped out of the van with a single bundle to do a small loop. I didn't get a chance to check out PopMaster on BBC Radio 2. :whistle

A bit of a coincidence then as Ken Bruce played it around 0945-1015 today - not sure of the exact time, but I know which road I was on!

Maybe it was coincidence. But it certainly put a spring in my step and a smile on my face, which may explain why I got strange looks from folks on the street. ("Look! A happy postie! Never seen one of those before.") :chuckle

One of our new guys quit today after 1 week, his line was "They don't give you time to s**t yourself here"
Shame he didn't make it, seems he would have been good at the banter.
He was unlucky, last week was a spectacularly crap one!

Just one week? Poor fellow. Yeah, last week was pretty busy in our office too.
