A big reduction in ips then? And 1 in 6 duties gone? Sounds marvelous!dingo wrote:No the LAT/ PM parcels will carry out the delivery of those parcels which is branded 3&4. The other delivery offices will lose this work all together.
Remember this is Royal Mail’s strategy and the CWU have not agreed it.

If all the big parcels are taken off us we could go back to Bikes
It could just be a variation of the old system where each section had one or 2 "Bulk" drivers who took the big parcels.......(or more often didn't!!!)
I regularly get 30 plus "Bulk" items on my paired delivery.

That's not how I read it citypostie, Dingo said the sixth dutyholder would be the parcel deliverer. If that is the case, no-one would lose their job. Would there really be enough parcels for a dutyholder to justify a parcel duty for six walks (or five now) or are they anticipating the increase of parcels and LAT products to make that viable.citypostie wrote:So in an office with 60 walks, 10 would be collapsed and the rest lose their bigger parcels and then one parcel delivery created to deliver the bigger parcels and lats for all those deliveries therefore replacing 10 jobs with 1? If these parcel deliveries are expected to cover over sized plus lats for a large number of deliveries they will be hard workdingo wrote:No it will concern all delivery offices but the 302 LAT units will sort the parcels for the whole catchment area which they currently do for the PM LAT parcels.

As usual royal mail are reaching too far, 1 in 6 duties is ridiculous. That could be 125 extra calls per duty or 250 calls per pair. How many large packets over shoe box size do they think we get?
And forgive me for being dumb but how can driving around with just large parcels in your van be more efficient than delivering them when you're already in that street, up that path and at that door?
What's the union's position dingo?

How the heck is this going to work for HCT duties that deliver to the roads closest to the depots?
They already give overweight/oversize parcel bundles to a van driver. Even though we now have Mk2 HCTs, we already have days outside Xmas pressure where we have to dead-walk back to the depot to replenish, before we even talk about the extra volume/weight/time dealing with an extra approx 100+ delivery points.
I could see possibly see it working for some "Park and Loop" van duties, which could easily have approx 10-30 adult shoe box+ parcels on duties I know... If that big parcel is the only item for an address (in which case it might save up to ~3mins per item, enough to post letters to ~8 addresses in an urban area).
If the OPG has to deliver letters anyway and especially if they have an attendance call item too big for the letterbox and/or needing a signature, time savings will be minimal.
If only Royal Mail had been around for centuries and had a database of how big a letterbox each address in the country has... I could then see the benefit of separating letters along with small parcels that will fit through letterboxes without needing a signature from everything else, that's how I see a parcel company managing a decline in letters.

That's not how I read it citypostie, Dingo said the sixth dutyholder would be the parcel deliverer.
No.
Only LAT offices will deliver the large 3/4(over shoe box size) parcels for an entire area. The majority of offices just won't see those parcels again or the jobs.

By doing this they estimate that by collapsing 1 walk in every 6 , that one would become the late
Parcel duty/LAT. The remaining 5 could absorb the 6th duty
As they would no longer be delivering large parcels.
I have had a long day so sorry if I am being thick.
I think the penny has just dropped, in the non LAT offices the six will become 5 but there will not be a driver in those offices, which is where the job losses will occur. No job losses in the LAT offices though if I am correct. The LAT drivers will presumably deliver the large parcels for the non LAT area as well then?

I have never known a company chop and change work practices so much as RM do without thinking what the ramifications will be,you just get used to working one way, then they decide to change things,I saw it happen countless times in all the years I was a postie. They just seem to go round and round in circles then some bright spark who most likely has never been a postie will come up with some crazy idea. I wonder what the next job change will be,the mind boggles!!
Oh I am so so glad I am out of all this!!

yes , say 60 deliverys absorb into 50 (10 jobs gone) and the LAT hubs deliver all the large parcels for that office , what a joke as they would have to take more than your large parcels off some deliverys just to complete now never mind adding more calls.mickeymacca wrote:Dingo posted

The offices that currently deliver LAT parcels.Forgive me for my ignorance but who what do you mean 'wont see those parcels again'?
Who will deliver them?
Our office currently does.
These are back shift duties at the moment mostly covered by overtime but if they're looking to expand it to this level they will be bespoke duties.
Parcels for DOs that don't do LATs will go directly to the offices that do so you won't even see those parcels, you'll just lose the duties.

Just to clarify at the moment there are 302 LAT offices which deliver to every postcode. When the parcel automation is introduced , it sort the parcels branded 3 & 4 for every unit to just those 302 LAT units and they will deliver from those LAT units to all postcodes.
Therefore if you are delivery office who is not an LAT unit and remember there are 1200 delivery units and 302 LAT units , you will not see these parcels come into your office anymore and obviously that will mean a reduction in workload.
Remember these are Royal Mail ‘s proposals and are not supported by the CWU.
