LTB055/19 Bucknall Grange Development Stoke-On-Trent - Low Level Letterbox Victory For CWU Postal Worker Members:
No. 055/2019
29 January2019
Our Ref: C32/19
To: All Branches
Dear Colleagues,
Bucknall Grange Development Stoke-On–Trent – Low Level Letterbox Victory For CWU Postal Worker Members:
Following the CWU “Ban Low Level Letter Box” campaign, Keepmoat Homes who are building 205 houses and two apartment blocks on the Bucknall Grange site have at last, after some pressure, responded sympathetically to the Communication Workers Union’s campaign and agreed to cease fitting the ground level letter boxes.
I’m delighted with the outcome of our efforts to get the low level letterboxes problem on the Bucknall Grange site in Stoke resolved and this is fantastic news for our members in Stoke – I welcome Keepmoat’s response. Our members delivering in Stoke to the area were facing around two hundred fifty houses and apartments on the site about to get low level letter box doors fitted. That’s now been stopped after our campaign which was supported by the MP and Council leader and others.
Developer ‘Keepmoat Homes’ has gone even further by assuring the CWU that not only will all the remaining homes at Bucknall Grange get mid-level door height letter box doors fitted but going forward, all future developments and homes they build will also have mid-door-height letter boxes fitted.
Note:
The CWU Campaign has included a lobby of Parliament to win support and on 16 January a Private Members Ten Minute Rule Bill the ‘Low Level Letterboxes (Prohibition) Bill 2019’ put forward by Vicky Ford MP and supported by MPs from all Parties was passed in the House of Commons and the CWU are calling on Minister Kit Malthouse to amend the Building Regulations to include the current EU Standard and make mid-door level letter boxes mandatory across the UK.
Attachment: letter from Keepmoat Homes Regional MD
Yours sincerely
Dave Joyce
