Radio on in the delivery office

One fella in our office has a real problem with the radio being on, he’s always turning it right down or off. He says it isn’t legal and he’s going to go to the area union rep about it.
I like the radio and most people do, but not that bothered too much either way, I don’t mind going without it if it’s really upsetting someone. Think it could be a sign of poor mental health and he needs help but not sure how to approach him.
Any ideas how to resolve this?

Hmmm...somtimes listening to other people's music can be pain in the arse, i've had noisy flatmates before. Although the corny office radio station never really bothers me.

I think in this case the minority should get thier way, if someone objects then turn it off. You can always have some banter at the frame about football, Love Island etc... if you wanna pass the time

I find the radio distracting and sometimes painful, but I just put up with it. I don't see why I should be subjected to music I hate. I reckon half the office don't notice it and half just put up with it as well.

The noisy minority - literally 2 or 3, don't seem to be able to function without mindless drivel in the background.

How is it a sign of poor mental health.. i hate music but love football is that a sign of mental health problems?????

Can’t stand the radio on unless it’s realky quiet, would rather talk instead.

Like others have said, I’ve been on a frame with the speakers right next to me and it is rather annoying.

Don't mind it being on quietly in the background.

Try having 2 radios tuned to 2 different stations like in my old smallish office.... now that really did drive me nuts!

You usually need to get a licence if you:

play recorded music in public or at your business (including background music on a CD, radio or music channel)
stage live music events in public (for example, a concert or festival)
play live or recorded music in a theatre
use sound recordings in a theatrical production (including on-stage and off-stage effects)
The licence you need is called ‘TheMusicLicence’.

Sometimes silence can be deafening. The same office banter can wear a little thin over time so music is often better. Everyone has a different taste in music in particular what someone in their forties or fifties might like to listen to versus what someone in their twenties wants to hear.

I think it depends on whats playing? I find Smooth radio & the drivel they come out with annoying.
Somebody cut the plug off a youths radio in our office, that sorted him.

Apparently he is right, you do need a licence. He is ok with it being on as long as it’s quiet. I think if music is sending you crazy there’s something else really that’s the issue.

Ours is a constant battle between capital, absolute and talksport. To be honest I was never really arsed but then it broke for a while and I could hear all the silly chit chat going on. It got on my nerves far worse than any radio station!
