Proper Scooby Doo closet of a van today. Brought a fuckton back. Never known neighbours to refuse parcels as much. Seems we have reached saturation point

Same with ours. I had over 30 large packets today and they told me to just take my tracked. When I went through them they was all tracked minus 2 of them. I pointed that out to then and left the whole lot.

No good for our business or reputation. I thought we were going to leave the letters and prioritize the parcels & packets this year - not the other way around.

Ours got his baws booted recently due to the poor Tracked performance.

I had 2 REALLY bad days for a newbie.

My frame was partly prepared as it was heavy parcel wise, chap said I had a lot of parcels as I could see. Prepared it and guy next to me was seriously overloaded so manager asked me if I could do overtime just 1 road on his. I wanted to try some overtime for once so said yes as postie a nice chap (!) so went on walk and got a call from manager to say I had 2 more parcel sacks left behind! Guy didn't tell me about that, manager said it wasn't my fault but could I come back after walk and do the tracked. THEN do the overtime road. So did route in super fast time, then I got back to grab the tracked, whizzed down the road in my trolley to go back and do same roads all over again and got a call to say come back! I was already knackered so ran trolley back and he told me to leave tracked and then just do the overtime road so I got dropped off as its far away, did it and had to walk back (which was ok actually) however it was raining and pitch black. Finished at 5pm.

Next day, I had the parcels left over from day before minus the tracked as someone else did those. My route however was HEAVY from black friday PLUS all the ones from day before and I asked for help. Nope. I was told to just get a driver to drop some bags off to me.

So I went off with my full trolley, 2 bags hanging on my shoulders and 1 bag balanced on top of trolley, with 4 bags in the van for later. 7 bags!! I left the depot so late that I was never going to win. Driver dropped off my bags, christ knows what I did with them, I was balancing them on trolley, hanging them where I could and asked him to take my returns as on my route 90% are never in so they go back. WHAT A SHAMBLES!! I got back at 5pm and my manager was asking why the hell I was just getting in as she didn't know the situ and I explained and she said "Oh Christmas is only for a few weeks... do your best!"

I am not going through that every day. I saw guy next to me had just cut off and left 3 bags on his frame. No one was doing it on overtime.

If you cut off every day and bring stuff back, how do you ever catch up? It just gets added to the next day and the next.

So i am going to be more vigilant and tough and just cut off (which will be every day if it's like this) do you need to tell manager? They HATE it when I last said it obviously but surely its only you who really suffers as it just adds to your round every day?

Long post apologies but I need to know how to get through this hell as a newbie!

Hahaha at the 2 bags on shoulders, one on the trolley and ones in the trolley, tell them you’re not doing any more overtime and leaving in 4 bags tomorrow

If it's an HCT duty. Don't take anything that can't be locked INSIDE your trolley. If anything gets nicked, bye bye job. You're quickly learning though that the more you 'help' them out, the more they take the pxxs.

do you need to tell manager?
Yes, if you don't you CAN be sacked.

check out downloads for "Overrunning Delivery Procedure" and use it as a guide.

Remember all overtime is voluntary, but you don't need to volunteer to do it all.

best advice see a union rep, theres too much wrong in your post to even break down. Explain what you have here and that you want to just work til your time.

i think the managers also use the probation periods against new people as a threat "well if youre not going be helpful we wont keep you" not that theyd actually say this but certainly can infer it.

I’ve met my union rep so may be worth speaking to him. However I never get the time it’s frantic the moment I rock up to work.

I will definitely be looking up that download document thanks. Need to clear up a few things I think.

I always assumed every postie I saw walking back seemingly finishing on time from a crazy shift, was all done but now I realise they were probably cutting off. I just never saw what they did when they got back to the depot.

I’ve found it so bad the last few days, feeling as if I had to finish or felt guilty for slowing down but the last few days have felt so bad it was enough to make me want to hand in my notice. I took the job to reduce stress not have more

It’s just letters and parcels but it really has become far more than that which is ridiculous!
