Canada Post labour unrest
About 50,000 Canadian Union of Postal Workers members are preparing to walk off the job late next month if a new collective agreement can’t be reached by that time, Simcoe.com has confirmed. A final strike vote is planned for Sept. 9.
In a post on the union’s website, national president Mike Palecek told members the bargaining process has entered a “critical stage”.
“If we have not reached agreements by September 26, we will have to be ready for some type of job action,” he said. “Over the decades, we’ve seen time and again that when bargaining is tough, the only thing that gets Canada Post moving is a powerful strike mandate.”
‘Last resort’: Why Canada’s postal workers believe they may be forced to strike
The union represents nearly 80 per cent of Canada Post employees.
Pay equity is one of the union’s major points of contention during this round of bargaining. About 8,000 of the employees work in a rural or suburban setting — rural workers are paid about 30 per cent less than their 42,000 urban-area counterparts.
The union is also pushing for the establishment of a Canada Post bank, electrification of the postal service’s 13,000-vehicle fleet, and installation of electric vehicle-charging stations at post offices across the country.

Make sure there aren't any glaring oversights in the process like some other union not too far away were handling recently.
