Last time I looked at the industrial action update on the RM website, it said that the Special Delivery guarantee had been reinstated - now it's just saying that it will reinstate 'service promises' as soon as they are able to fulfil them.
Just checking -this means that the Special Delivery guarantee is off again right?

Re: Special Delivery Guarantee?
You'll be doing well to get a RMSD before the promised 1pm if you live near the end of a delivery. They might mean that.Trends Guild wrote:Last time I looked at the industrial action update on the RM website, it said that the Special Delivery guarantee had been reinstated - now it's just saying that it will reinstate 'service promises' as soon as they are able to fulfil them.

We aren't getting mail until around 3pm - the post lady has explained why (overtime ban or something like that) and I'm ok with it. Just need to know what to tell customers.

I think that the guarantee is now being honoured but best check with Customer Services. I believe that the "Service Promise" relates to 1st class and other mail such as bulk postings etc and does not apply to "Specials".

The Special Delivery garuantee against loss should still be valid but I doubt the 'timed' bit will be
The time gauantee is quite useless anyway and it only covers consequential loss so if it get arrives at 1330 instead of 1300 you have to provide proof of your losses due to that 30 minutes.
Also, I don't know what the 'basic' value limit is on SD but it isn't very high although you can take extra insurance upto £20k or something like that.
Basically, what I'm saying is that if you send it SD it should get there on the day it is due and from a postmans perspective, losing a SD item would probably mean getting sacked.
It is still a reliable service.

It depends on the screw. We had one lad lose one and he was counselled. Twenty two years, clean record. Within weeks, he lost another and got a two year serious warning. That was from a DUM who had been around for a long time and wasn't after Brownie points. Another lad lost one, fifteen years serrvice, clear record, and was hit with a two year serious warning by an acting screw on the lookout to raise his profile. It was reduced to 12 months on appeal. I've known a few people lose them, but I've never known anyone get sacked. I would think the IB might put out a few test letters just to see if they are honest though. I've never lost anything (as far as I'm aware) but I had a recorded item nicked after I had handed it into the locker some years ago. Within months, an acting PHG was down the road for thieving.Spedley wrote:The Special Delivery garuantee against loss should still be valid but I doubt the 'timed' bit will be

Well the parcel I was waiting for was reported as delivered when it hdan't been. I rang them and they assured me that they had delivered it, but I hadn't got it. The postlady just turned up carrying the 'delivered' parcel. (she had been sent to another town to deliver a 4 day backlog there...)
Shame on them.
For information, Customer services have told me that the SD guarantee is still in place and that the RM site should have been updated.

I phoned RM customer services when I sent a special once & couldn't track it or check it had been delivered. I was told that they had scanned it upside down which was why it wasn't registered on the system. I told her I was a postie & that was rubbish. She still tried to tell me that was the case. It took 2 days to show on the system!

What happened here is that someone back at the DO confirmed all as delivered before they actually were.Trends Guild wrote:Well the parcel I was waiting for was reported as delivered when it hdan't been. We have to text or ring it in if we have tried to deliver and cant. Also we can refuse to take out Specials when you know you will miss the 1.00 deadline.
