Royal Mail managers need to change

Thought going forward in new agreement things might improve but went worse.
Maybe I'm losing my marbles
I fully understand your pessimism!
Far too long ignored, put on the back burner and left to local then area reps to deal with then RM management dance rings round them or play the intimidation card up to the last gasp.
They play the cat and mouse game then start all over again unchallenged.
Mean time the posties are left to put up with the endless intimidation.
NOTHING ever changes. Culture change” my arse “.

It's worse now than it ever has been. The B&H has certainly ramped up since the last agreement.

I've been off sick with stress for 4 weeks now for the first time in my 35 year working life due to the intimidation from managers. You genuinely wouldn't believe some of the stuff that has been said, of a personal nature, to myself which I dare not disclose on this forum due to fear of being found out. I have always stood up for myself and been reasonable but after all these years they've eventually worn me down.

Several grievances have been ignored completely. Unit rep reply is just to keep putting forms in. Area rep says he'll get back to you and never does. B&H line told me to phone the police if i felt intimidated!! Of course they are all chums with the area manager which means round and round we go.

I know a union is only as strong as it's members and although i work with a decent bunch they are all too scared to make a stand out of fear for their own jobs.

The job i once loved is a shadow of it's former self. Hopefully i will be out soon I literally cannot take it anymore.

Reading these posts I would just like. To say it’s no different in logistics/rdc and with the pension finally biting the dust there is no reason for long term loyalty to the Royal Mail as you don’t get anything at the end of it.so like me if you have a transferable skill it might be time to say stick it,but that’s what the Royal Mail want and replace the full time contracts with part timers.

Bob the postie makes a very valid point !
The HR procedure stages 1 and 2 is Unfit for purpose.
The investigation is done by another or similar ranked DOMs boss. The chances of a fair hearing is minimal.
The complaint is turned head on heals to the point where the original complainant is treated as the person at fault.
Managers always have their backs covered by mates. All the time the complainant sits along with the area rep trying their explain to their utmost to justify an often stone wall case, only to be told it is invalid or not upheld.
The process is made so stressful on the complainant and pressure is applied to drop the case grievance.
Most cases at this stage fail to go any further, covered up and no longer a statistic for attention. Closed file !!
It is a similar ritual throughout, and the odds stack up in favour of the intimidating management regime.
Truly shocking and yet again our Union keep stressing upon the members to follow a biased unfair grievance procedure.
A better system is long overdue and needs to be included in this culture change proposal to get fairness for posties.

I have always said these cases should be done by an independent body and not by mates looking after mates , and if these people are found guilty of any change of b&h etc , they should be OUT the door , and not just moved to another office till it settles down , because we all know there are some dims that shove there chest out at the amount of cases they have had and they still have a job and some actually move up the ladder  , this wouldn't happen in any other company .

It’s the only style of management they really know !
Unless there is stringent punishment on them for not behaving as the “ new culture “ deems as acceptable behaviour it may never change. It needs policing and enforcing . They have been getting away with unacceptable methods of managing for years now at the nod from senior mangers, mainly to achieve targets and bonuses.
It does need to be policed and enforced, but therein lies your problem, the area managers are bigger bullies than the lower managers, whilst the ones above area are so out of touch with reality it's painful. So who is going to police it? It's so endemic you need to sack the lot of them and start again and that ain't going to happen anytime soon.

RM is a shameful company to work for (and I am looking for something else).

Managers are, at best, ineffective and at worst they are bullies. Plain and simple as that.

Well done Terry for spotting what has been the bleeding obvious for a long time!

I never believed that Royal Mail were serious about changing the culture within the company which is why I voted against the agreement . There was nothing set in stone and once Royal Mail got what it wanted the issue was always going to be kicked into the long grass.

Went to get some disposable gloves from the office & the manager was reading this site, I’m sure it was this topic?

They shouldn't be able to do it on a RM computer as I have blocked their IP.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Interesting that now this thread has some activity and has been ‘bumped’... I clicked on the first page and an advert pops up... with the tagline ‘Prevent Pesky Parasites’. Just sayin’...
