I started working at Royal Mail in 1980. Something I noticed was how flexible the workforce was then. We had no delivery, processing and collection divisions and no parcelforce. Everything was integrated into one efficient service. There were no posties strictly on one delivery all the time. If management wanted to move you on to a different job you did so with no problems. So who's fault is it that these changes were made, certainly not the postmans. Yet we are the ones being persecuted. Look how many management jobs have sprung up in the last 15 years. Next time you read the Courier, read the letters page, when a reply is needed, it always amuses me to the title of the manager giving it, product configuration manager, head of retirement strategy and that was in the latest edition.
