New Cancellations & Absence Management Process from Monday 21st May 2018

Post by dancingqueen »

Anybody else get the email below today from Angard ? Question is what recourse do Angard workers have if our shifts get cancelled at short notice as they often do ?

Dear Angard Employee,

New Cancellations & Absence Management Process from Monday 21st May 2018

We are keen to reduce the volume of cases where Angard employees do not attend a shift, or cancel their attendance at short notice for our bookings.
Whilst we appreciate this cannot always be helped, we do need to ensure that processes are put in place to ensure that - wherever possible - we can fulfil Royal Mail's requirements consistently.

With this in mind we are introducing the following measures:

4 hours working time notice on cancelled bookings (Weekdays and Nights)
If you have accepted a booking but need to cancel, we require a minimum of 4 hours notice before the booking start time.

This means that cancellation of attendance for bookings starting at 22:00 hrs needs be provided to us by 18:00 hrs.

Equally, we require notification that you cannot attend an Early shift starting at 06:00hrs by 18:00 hrs the day before (in this way, you are providing 4 hours working time notice for our team to replace you).

Absence Investigation
If you are unable to attend 2 or more shifts that you have accepted within any 4 week period, our Team Managers will be required to investigate the root causes with you and to understand how we can address the challenges you have faced.

Whilst an investigation is underway, you will not be placed in any further bookings.

If you cancel your booking with less than 4 hours notice or do not attend your booking we will end your assignment immediately and begin an investigation process.
Investigations will be conducted and completed as swiftly as possible in the interest of addressing the issue and returning you to bookings.

Weekend shifts
As we are not operational between 22:00 hrs on Fridays and 06:00 hrs on Mondays, we are normally unable to replace you if you do not attend (or need to cancel) a shift you have accepted between these hours.

In cases that you cannot attend weekend shifts (other than providing the 4 hours notice from 18:00 hrs on Fridays) we will begin an immediate investigation on the Monday following. It is important therefore that you e-mail us in advance to outline your reason for non attendance so that we have the background information ready to begin our investigation. Candidates who need to cancel their bookings over the weekend in this way will be permitted to attend week day shifts whilst we complete our investigation.

Please note that in the event you are unable to attend a weekend shift, we still ask that you call Angard during our out of hours periods so that a member of our out of hours team can try to replace you.

When investigating cancellation of weekend shifts we will take in to consideration cases where you have provided 4 hours' notice to our out of hours team.

Cancelling shifts
When cancelling your attendance for a shift please ensure that you take the name of the Consultant that you reported this to, and the time.
This information will be required from you in our investigations.

Not received such an email.

If WE have to give THEM 4 working hours notice of being unable to work a shift to which we are committed, do you think it will work the other way round?

With all these block-booked shifts from two weeks previously being cancelled, one-by-one on the day we are due to work, if THEY cancel with less than 4 hours warning will they have to pay us?

Or can we make a Grievance Pricedure?

I’m sure that an Industrial Relations Tribunal would look askance at a one-way arrangement solely in favour of the employer.

I got one of these. The main flaw is the couple of times I've had to cancel nobody has answered the phone so I've ended up doing it by email. This does have the advantage that the email has a time stamp for when you sent it.

Email sent out today trying to block book staff for week commencing 28 May.

Last time they did this they cancelled all abuses each day.

Abuse of their system - tying up staff with non-existent shifts.
