I've never known the turnover of staff being so high as it has been over the last six months or so, new starters coming in on a monthly basis. I still think its a great job, but it does make wonder if I have been conditioned somewhat into thinking that, the job has undoubtedly got harder.Celgar wrote:It is still really difficult to get replacements when posties leave or relocate elsewhere. We have been trying to fill two full time & one 4 day position in our D/O for months & months and have just filled the second full time job. Two posties from elsewhere transferred in for the two full time jobs. I get the impression most people who apply who are not already posties can barely read & write. There is a real problem in this country with people not wanting to work anymore hence so many immigrants coming in to do so many different types of jobs. Meanwhile we paying 1.5 million people to sit on their a**** and watch TV.dingo wrote:It is on basic pay and delivery supplement. Not RRIS as the criteria for that pay was set in 1987 and was based on when it was difficult to recruit and difficult to retain and most places who receive RRIS are no longer like this today.cavendish9027 wrote:Can anyone confirm what the 5% back pay is on. I assume it's just basic pay and not RRIS or delivery supplement?

Except when there has been some bad recession on Rm has always had a fair turnover of staff. That’s why they introduced the rris payment many years ago to try and retain staff in areas of low unemployment. My old office even offered recruitment bonuses if you could introduce recruits and they stayed beyond 3 months.

Do you remember the "retention incentive " payment we used to get back in the late eighties? At least we did in the south east of England and it wasn't to stop you from going for a wee.deltaforce wrote:Except when there has been some bad recession on Rm has always had a fair turnover of staff. Why does the wording of that notice seem so odd? it seems to suggest that after March 2019 the 5% extra ends. So does that mean we will only get, as I recall 2% on pre October 2017 rates after march 2019?
I am sure this is not the case but it does seem strange wording to me anyway.

If I understood "the agreement" correctly, any further pay increases for the time period of this "agreement" for part timers and shorter working weeks for full timers after March 2019 are all dependent upon reaching unknown targets for unknown trials.Flashman_ wrote:Why does the wording of that notice seem so odd? it seems to suggest that after March 2019 the 5% extra ends. Get rid of the sorting frames, turn them into drone piloting stations with augmented reality headsets - drone mail and parcel delivery from sitting in the office without getting wet, no dog bites, no sore feet, meal and toilet breaks not a problem, no more 'I hope they're not bills', lapsing not a problem, one person monitoring ten walks.
If you can't operate a PDA in the dark when it's raining you don't qualify for drone pilot training and you're out the door! It's the way forward.....that rings a bell for some reason.....

"Until March 19" sounds like they may take it back off us. This is a permanent pay increase ... isn't it?

Here’s a question for you;
Are people who have had less than a years service between the wage rise implementation date of October 2017 and it’s payment in May 2018 due backpay?
I can’t recall seeing anything in the agreement that covers a rise in the rate for new starters from 0-6 months and 6-12 months. However isn’t it 90% of full rate from 0-6 months and 95% of full rate from 6-12 months? So should it be taken for granted that people with less than a years service will also see 5% backpay to October 2017? Or has this been overlooked by the union?
This only occurred to me when I was working how much I should expect in May’s wageslip, are new starters going to be shafted? We’ll find out in May I guess.

I would have thought that all qualifying wages, overtime and allowances earned since October 2017 will be added together and 5% calculated from the total. This should be your arrears of pay regardless of when you started. If you started 3 months ago all your earnings should be used, if you were on a lower hourly rate due to age etc. the total will be less than an established postie on full rate would have earned but it should surely still attract the full 5%.

As a part time employee I only get back pay on my core hours, all hours worked over and up to 39 hours is at the current rate. My question is at what date will I receive the 5% increase on any time I work above my core hours. Will it be at the time of the vote or from 30th April???
