wandle wrote:The people who disliked the agreement had a chance to vote against it. Saying ‘well, it’s going to be voted in regardless’ as an argument for not voting is about as logical as the woman who says ‘I want my large takeaway pizza cut into 8 slices, cause I can’t eat 12’...
That's unlikely to be the reason many didn't vote.
It's more likely that they didn't support the agreement but didn't believe the union would be able to improve it (which the union more or less admitted to). I would also imagine many would have voted Yes not because they supported the agreement but because they feared a long drawn out dispute with an ever diminishing return. For the majority of those members their choice was between voting Yes and if their conscience wouldn't let them do that then not voting at all.

In a two horse race where you support neither position withholding your vote is a genuine democratic choice and shouldn't be written off as laziness. That's why we see such high numbers not voting, they are making a decision, the decision to support neither option because they're both unpalatable.

I voted no and will tell the yes voters in my office don’t moan to me when the agreement is fully implemented trials and all .plus a pension still to be agreed.

I think it should of been two votes one for pension one for pay etc . The pension one would of have been a resounding no

Which is going to be 2 hours a week less thanks to the union getting this agreement.
If people want to do more work in less time & whinge about it crack on. I won't be I will be enjoying my later starts & same finishing time
This ain't no baseball game, you get only one chance and you blew it.

If non-voters for this agreement were also counted as "no" voters, this result would have been a very narrow win for "no" (~56000 vs ~57000).
Did 113000 people vote in the first ballot. I think no would be the answer

Careful - it was RM that counted the none voters as "No", applying the same logic that they accept whats on offer by default, it makes it a massive majority for Yes.
Correct ! Strange how people forget. Poor stance to argue a losing point.
I did not like the result, disappointed at the turn out, but still believe in democracy and accept the result.

The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter. :hmmmm

Indeed it always amazes me the logic and spin people will try and put on a vote that goes against how they voted personally. It just smacks of clutching at straws. It seems some people are just incapable of accepting a vote at face value unless it ends up favouring their own personal view! :cuppa

I voted no but I will accept the result. I just know deliveries will be hit the hardest that's all. In every office revision and change all royal mail have ever done is make the rounds bigger. It's simple economics, both the royal mail and our union are saying that it's inevitable, but why is it?? I mean our share price is doing well, we deliver more parcels than ever before and I would suspect mail volumes are still doing ok because we still deliver all those Screwfix, matalan, holiday bumpf and council letters every week. So why is it inevitable that we all need to start later just so that royal mail can introduce machines which will cut our indoor hours. I get the idea of the sww- but not at the expense of fewer postie's or a bigger outdoor span. That will surely be the challenge for the months and years ahead. Expecting postie's to turn up at the office and everything will be ready for dispatch...cripes, even the d2ds that we don't get paid for anymore are not even ready!!
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
