Pension Quote

I will shortly be 55 and have just received my quote for my NRA 60 & NRA 65 pensions.

However it doesn't mention the Pension Supplement.

Does anybody know if the pension supplement is included in these figures or is extra.

The supplement is extra to the figures quoted. When I got my paperwork prior to getting my NRA60 pension it was only listed almost as an after thought on the last lot of of paperwork. It works out at roughly £56 per year of service. With the same 5% reduction per year to taking it early.

Is that£56 per yr of service, per yr. ? If so 27 yrs service is£1400 a yr! Is that paid till you're state pension age?

Section C members get the supplement from taking their pension until state pension age, as long as they've left the business. You don't get it if you take your pension and continue working.

Dare I ask how much time you need before you apply. I'm 55 in exactly two months. I have all their contact details. I just do not want to be a nuisance applying too early.

I started in 1981 with 35.5 years service. Does this pension supplement apply to the older schemes?

Plus also have an AVC with Zurich. Just dug last years statement out. It was produced on 31/3. Would I be better contacting them on 1/4 to include 2017/18 bonus?

I don’t think that’s too soon. They can only say no if it is!

starting in 1981 you’ll have a section B pension which doesn’t have a supplement.

Your point of contact is the pensions dept. in Sheffield, there's no need to contact Zurich directly.

It will take more than 2 months for everything to be sorted. My documentation to take NRA 60 (and all benefits) in April started in December 2017. Now filled in and sent back 2 set of documents between then and now I did ask them a few days ago if I could postpone my actual date by a few weeks. Although this was possible unfortunately it would have reset the whole process back to the start so I'd then be looking at first pension payment in June! So I'd have to say that from start to finish 4 months would be the norm for most. Even then there is a revision process undertaken (8 weeks or so) after your first pension payment.

Many thanks. Just been on with Pond Street this morning. You can apply two months before the actual date. Just hit that right,
