Couriers at one of Britain's biggest delivery firms told to take a £2,000 pay cut or LOSE their jobs
DHL, which delivers for M&S and Argos, told their drivers that unless they sign new contracts their services would no longer be required
DHL/UK Mail workers at more than 50 depots around the country were told to sign new contracts
Drivers who deliver goods for some of the biggest names in the high street have been told to take a £2,000 pay cut – or lose their jobs.
The GMB union , which represents some of the 2,000 workers at DHL/UK Mail, accused the company of “appalling treatment” of its couriers.
The firm, which delivers for M&S , House of Fraser , O2, eBay and Argos , told workers at more than 50 depots around the country to sign new contracts.
At the Runcorn depot, in Cheshire, drivers were called in one by one and told that unless they signed, their services would no longer be required.
Union leaders said the new contracts mean drivers could lose up to £2,000 a year, as they would be paid per delivery rather than for time worked
A driver who spoke to the Mirror said: “We were put under duress and when we asked for time to go through the new contracts, we were told they had to be signed by the end of the shift.”
Union leaders said the new contracts mean drivers could lose up to £2,000 a year, as they would be paid per delivery rather than for time worked.
Workers earn between £19,000 and £25,000 a year, but one said the changes would put him on the minimum wage of £7.83 an hour.
Drivers at other firms have told of having to deliver 200 parcels a day and being fined for not meeting schedules.
Mick Rix, of the GMB, said: “We have been inundated with calls from members over their draconian treatment of drivers.”
In 2016, DHL/UK Mail made profits of £41million, and paid shareholders £5million and directors £900,000.
The firm said: “Due to a significant increase in the number of parcels UK Mail is carrying, the earnings of self-employed drivers, who are paid per parcel, have gone up correspondingly.”

DHL told to take a 2k pay cut or LOSE their jobs
This is exactly what happened at Parcelforce..the full time drivers who volunteered to take redundancy on the Friday ,with a view to starting as an OD on the Monday,,were told that they had no time to scrutinise the contract, and they had to sign it there and then,,the management put intense pressure on them to sign,,and two years into a 4 year contract,Parcelforce decided to change the terms and conditions and rip up existing contracts.
Drivers immediately lost huge amounts of money,,because not only did Parcelforce change the way the ODs were paid,,they also changed the rates as well,,now,,if the ODs had returned to the hire company and informed them that because Parcelforce had ripped up their 4 year contract,,and they wanted to rip up the HP contract with the van hire company,,they would be in court before the torn up contract had fluttered to the floor..its downright criminal the way the management treat drivers and I hope that the forthcoming inquiry by MP Frank Field will expose these bullies for what they are and legal proceedings will be brought against every company by the GMB,,there must be some very squeaky bums in Parcelforce/DPD/Hermes ..
