LTB 007/18 : CWU FOUR PILLARS OF SECURITY CAMPAIGN BULLETIN NO. 31
No. 007/18
5th January 2018
Dear Colleague,
CWU FOUR PILLARS OF SECURITY CAMPAIGN BULLETIN NO. 31
Further to LTB 693/17, attached is Bulletin No. 31 concerning the Four Pillars of Security campaign.
The attached Bulletin has also been shared with Divisional, Regional and Area Representatives, as will all future Bulletins.
As previously advised, it is imperative that every Branch ensures that each Bulletin is forwarded to Unit/Local/Shift Representatives via email and if necessary by physical means without delay.
The co-operation and assistance of all Branches in this regard is greatly appreciated.
Any enquiries in relation to the content of this LTB should be addressed to the DGS(P) Department.
Yours sincerely
Terry Pullinger
Deputy General Secretary (Postal)

NEGOTIATIONS CONTINUE
This Bulletin provides us with an opportunity to wish all our activists and members the very best for 2018 and to thank them for the amazing effort put in during the busy Christmas period.
Equally this Bulletin is important to refocus everyone on our collective objective of securing an Agreement on Pay and the Four Pillars of Security. An Agreement that not only provides decent employment, standard of living and pension security for all but changes the current workplace culture from negativity and low morale to one of genuine respect and mutual interest.
Your national negotiating team has been back in talks this week with the employer and our confidence grows that we will reach a negotiators Agreement which will address all of the issues we have campaigned on.
The negotiators recognise the tremendous support our members and activists have given the union and this continued support will be paramount if the union is to deliver a successful conclusion to this dispute. We must not be complacent and be mindful that these talks could break down at any stage and we may still find ourselves having to take action to get an Agreement over the line.
A full update on the latest talks will be provided to the Postal Executive Committee and Senior Field Officials on Tuesday 9th January which will be followed by a further field communication to Branches and Representatives.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Is the current ballot still "live" or would the union need to run a new ballot?

Sorry but I think you are being, if not unfair, then a little naive where negotiations are concerned. It is not a discussion over who pays how much at the local Curry house, it affects nearly 150,000 people directly and IMHO shouldn't be rushed.
I personally don't want a quick fix, al'a 2010 deal (Deal of the Century), I'd rather they sit down and screw everything down as far as possible and if that takes a few weeks or months more so be it.

I'm not being unfair these have been talking for over 18 months + now , and I don't think its all about what pay rise we can get theres more important issues that need dealing with , but to read this in every bulletin , we are confident of getting there but if talks fall then I/a it will be , we arent all idiots and most people have lost the will to live over this , 90% of the staff was willing to walk out and lose money over xmas to support the cwu , but we seem to be going round in circles , its either yes or no , and the members need to be told if no agreement and where this is falling down not these bulleting 31 . and we all know especially in delivery where we got shafted in the 2010 deal of the century , as most staff get that s**t everyday .TrueBlueTerrier wrote:worktotime wrote:and ???????? we wait till the 9th after the pec meeting then ? , this is the same shite as the last one so nothing has changed then ? , we are confident about an agreement BUT if talks break down I/a, its either yes or no , and the members need to know whats going on as this has dragged on for long enough and people are getting pissed off with this and the daily issues . come on make a decision .

Work to Time, I agree with you , the danger is that the momentum gained by the huge yes vote is slipping away and people will just be resigned to "whatever". Meanwhile the cost of living continues to ramp up, council tax up by 6%, fuel costs up etc, etc. So the time for talking is at an end and we need to know one way or the other,if the offer is worth having, bearing in mind we have to have a ballot on that as well

The longer it takes the better it is for us, if it takes another 2 weeks or 2 months to claw out a slightly better deal. We can use the time to show support for our union, for its for our benefit.

Edit from bulletin;
"And our confidence grows that we will reach a negotiators Agreement which will address all of the issues we have campaigned on."
"We must not be complacent and be mindful that these talks could break down at any stage"
I suppose the union have to err on the side of caution when making statements but it appears that a resolution is still in the balance. More talks needed ??
We still have 3 months remaining before the ballot result is void.

If both sides can agree a deal it would need to be a long term one possibly a five year deal would probably need a new overrunning procedure and reduction in the working week a pensions solution for all and a pay rise with an inflation target adjusted for reduction in the working week of that year plus performance adjustment and reasonable finish times! Don't think I am asking to much.

I can't see how a reduction in the working week can work without RM taking on more staff in both MCs and DOs (what's the staffing generally like in MDECs and RDCs?)

It is two fold as automation in mail centres will encroach on hour's in delivery offices as less manual work for most delivery offices whilst you need manpower to feed the machines and thereafter distribute it and shift it this whole concept is beyond the whole comprehension of mere-cat management! But a solution's must be found and this is not in our remit If your hour's are reduced it is not for you to find the time but for them to staff the office properly anything less is a failure of their own making!SpacePhoenix wrote:I can't see how a reduction in the working week can work without RM taking on more staff in both MCs and DOs (what's the staffing generally like in MDECs and RDCs?)
