Will CWU send members working for Angard Ballit Papers?

Post by NW11851 »

I work for Angard on the usual casual, zero-hours, contract.

Although a member of CWU, I have not yet received a Ballot Paper.

Should I be concerned or don’t we get a say?

The dispute is with Royal Mail not Angard so you wouldn't get a ballot paper.

OIC. And ANGARD having the same Registered Office still keeps them legally separate. LOL.

If the RM CWU do come out on strike, will ANGARD be used to strike-break.?

Where will that leave us, in the middle?

It's difficult to go on strike with a zero hour contract anyway!

None of the current issues affect us other than any potential pay increase/decrease for RM staff which is mirrored in our pay. I notice the updated CWU main site doesn't acknowledge the existence of Angard anymore, try doing a search on the site for Angard and 'no matches found', so it shows how interested they are in representiong Angard employees.

I can't see much point in using Angard staff as strike breakers as most work in mail centres not delivery and there is no point in a mail centre if nothing is moving from the local offices, but who knows?

Come out of the union. Why pay them dues when they don't care about yous. When I worked at GMC as a postman driver we hit the streets and the casual workers who had no choice but to walk through the lines or they would have been sacked on the spot. When we went back the next day the union said that unless RM sacked them we would walk again as they said we were not happy working alongside strike breakers but 95% of us had started casual and didn't want this except the usual union docket suckers. The union is not always correct.

Thats a good point navalron.
But angard will try to blackmail workers to walk through the picket lines , by hinting that they will not receive any Christmas scheduled shifts if they dont.
You cant win , you go through picket lines or be punished by angard.

Agencies aren’t allowed to supply workers specifically to cover work that isn’t being done during lawful industrial action.

Agency workers already in place as part of your normal business can carry on as usual.

Angard bill RM for their work.
If Angard weren't an Agency Royal Mail could pay their casuals a lower rate as they'd be direct workers and not under AWR regulations.

Dont you think they'd do this if they could?

I was with Angard for 4 years and there was a previous ballot where this was confirmed (it did not lead to industrial action )
