It’s the astonishing bins blunder that left a city student wheelie frustrated.

A courier dumped Chris Burden’s Amazon delivery in his bin – on the day his rubbish was collected for the first time in two months because of the strike.

And the 21-year-old’s delight at the appearance of a dustcart turned to misery when he discovered the ‘safe place’ where his package had been left.

“We couldn’t believe it,” said Chris, who studies languages at the University of Birmingham.

“Of all the days to leave the parcel in the bin...”

Chris ordered an extension lead and coat hangers for the Harborne home he shares with two housemates from the online delivery giant.

He was out when the parcel arrived on Wednesday and only realised what had become of the delivery when he read a note left by a courier.

Chris said: “I’d ordered an extension lead and coat hangers off Amazon – we’ve not been in the house long so we’re still getting some basics.

“We got home and were excited because we realised the bins had finally been collected.

“They had been sitting outside on the pavement for two months.

“Then I got inside and saw the little orange slip on the mat.

“We hadn’t been in so the delivery man had left the parcel in the bin.

“We don’t create that much waste so there was still some space in our wheelie bin.

“But there’s no way the courier could not have known about the bins strike – just a drive down our street would have told them that.

“They probably just thought there was no risk of it being collected.”

The 21-year-old and his two housemates checked all the nearby bins, but quickly found they had all been emptied.

Chris contacted Amazon to explain the incident and the company speedily issued a full refund and postage.

Amazon dealt with it really quickly,” he said.

“We just thought it was amusing – sod’s law really!”

A spokesman from Amazon told the Mail: "We take any complaint of this nature seriously and are working with the delivery company, which is investigating the matter."

Chris who studies languages at the University of Birmingham said: “I’d ordered an extension lead and coat hangers off Amazon" but will probably have learnt to say "from Amazon" by the time he graduates. :thumbup
