2008 pension rules question

Post by caraidalba »

Hi.
I need some advise about whether a member I know comes under the old pre April 2008 DB scheme or the present DC one.
He joined RM in 2006, but because he was 16 he couldn't join till after April 2008. I know that anybody who joined the business after this date come under the inferior DC scheme, but do even the staff who started working for RM before it come under it too?
Thanks in advance.

I think the rule is that you have to be 18 before you can join a RM pension scheme. So if he reached 18 after 1st April 2008, I assume he would have to go into the DC plan.

Even if it was possible for employees to be put into the DB scheme after 2008, because they were too young to join at the time, I wouldn’t have thought it was possible to backdate someone’s pension position by nearly 10 years!
It’s really something that should have been looked into at the time.

Sorry I can’t be of more help.
