on Monday Post was sent to Number 50, instead of 40. Street only goes up to number 40.
what happens to it. Is had no return address on it. Will it be marked as undeliverable and kept by royalmail?

The chances are, the postman will be able to work out where it is meant to go, especially if it has a distinctive surname.
For example, on my duty, with a street of 40 houses, I'd know 30+ of the surnames. If a later was addressed to 'Z Blenkinsop', I'd know instantly where it was meant to go. If it was addressed to ' A Smith', I'd know there were two Smiths, and I'd check the initials. I might even knock on the door of Mr Smith and ask him if he knows an 'A Smith'.
Of course, if it was my day off, my floater might not be inclined to waste any time, he might kill it off (return to sender) or leave it for me to look at the next day.
