Special Delivery Saturday

Post by NotSoSpecial »

Hi All,
I posted a letter at 12:33 on Friday 16th for Saturday Special Delivery. I have just checked the tracker and it says it was not delivered.

Latest update: We have your item
Your item with reference * has been held for delivery on Monday. This is either at the request of the receiving customer or because the address is an exclusion for Saturday deliveries.

Can anyone tell me why this failed? The documents were important and there was someone waiting at the business specifically on a Saturday to pick this item up to process them before Monday as there was a deadline to hit.

Although there was no monetary value in the package just paper it may set me back a few hundred pounds in extra charges by the company now. Doubt there is anything I can claim regards this?

I am just hoping it gets delivered first thing Monday morning if its not lost and the company process them without delaying the process.

Any help much appreciated, kind regards.

it is possible that this address was a business address that isn't normally open on Saturday and so wasn't attempted or had an instruction (retention) to keep Saturday mail for delivery on Mondays. I have several Saturday retention instructions for Solicitors etc who don't want business mail lying on the mat over the weekend.

You can claim money from Royal Mail if you paid extra for Consequential Loss cover and the holding back for Monday delivery was in error.

If the recipient did have an arrangement to hold back and it is the recipient that is charging you for non-receipt on a Saturday then you might be able to take a Small Claims Court action against the recipient. You might be able to get free advice on this from the Citizens Advice Bureaux.

Thanks for the replies guys, after contacting RoyalMail direct they replied with:

"I'm ever so sorry. It sounds like your item was sent to the wrong area. Please could you DM us your tracking number? ^AL"

After sending them the tracking number they replied with:

Thanks. Unfortunately it may take a day or so for the item to be re-routed and delivered in the correct area. I'm very sorry for any delays. Once it arrives, a claim can be submitted and we'd refund the postage paid.

To which a "day or so" got my back up considering if it was not lost then surely whatever depot it landed at, they could then send on to the correct one within a next day guaranteed service not in a day or so. Regardless of their poor choice of words it has been delivered this morning but I have been given no guarantee's by the company that they will process it in time today to meet the deadline which has officially passed.

Also there was no hold back procedure as I have questioned this with the company and my advisor said she works both Saturday's and Sundays regularly and post is not turned away 24hrs a day as they get couriers at all sorts of times.

Thanks for taking the time to reply both.
