Hermes have grown their business by over 7% in the past year to €2.640 billion. Instrumental in this was the Group’s European parcel companies which, continues benefiting from flourishing global online retailing.

Hermes parcel companies in Germany, Austria, the UK, Italy and Russia delivered a record 640 million parcels to its customers in Europe. This represents an increase of 10% in parcels, catalogues and other goods compared to the previous year.

“The steady increase in volumes and revenues in the CEP sector should not detract from the fact that the sector in under enormous price and cost pressure. The individualisation of delivery processes and rising costs of vehicles, couriers and technical infrastructure signify an increasing ecological and economic challenge for the whole parcel distribution.”
Donald Pilz – CEO at Hermes Europe GmbH
In Germany, Hermes is preparing to continue its infrastructure developments across the both the B2C and C2C markets. Three new Hermes Logistics Centres will be opened in Bad Rappenau, Mainz and Berlin in 2017. These new Hermes Germany sites will ensure that the steady growth in consignment volumes can be efficiently processed in the future, that clients can inject volumes into the Hermes system much later and that deliveries can be made much quicker thanks to shorter feed times.

In the UK, Hermes are in the process of building a new £31 million development facility in Rugby due to open in August this year. The new Rugby Hub will will handle up to 1.1 million parcels every day and will increase the company’s overall parcel processing capacity by 45%.

Hermes and their readily accessible myHermes service have long been popular options for marketplace sellers due to the price point of their economy services and in recent years their massive investment in improving services. A decade ago, myHermes was often considered to be a bit of a dodgy service due to their ‘life style’ couriers. That’s no longer the case, certainly not where I live as my local delivery driver has expanded their round so much that they now run the local myHermes delivery depot.

Hermes are also constantly innovating, with recent moves being testing robot deliveries in London and tracking via Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant on Echo.
