strike over pension closure
one of our reps was at the union meeting at Tyneside Irish club last weekend. it was hosted by executive member Mark Baulch. apparently it seems RM are not budging on the impending closure of the pension in 2018, and according to what was said at the meeting, it seems industrial action no less than strike action WILL be the inevitable response to this stand by the company. it remains to be seen if this will happen, but the union seems to be sure it will, and they will get a yes vote.

strike over pension closure
The outcome of a strike ballot is not that certain. There is a lot of staff who are not in the db scheme, so they might not want to get involved in what they may see as not their dispute., plus the staff who are due to retire in the next couple of years.

All I will say on the subject is that in order to get the best possible outcome for all our members even if that means that the DB scheme still does have to close it's very important that all members give the union the strength to negotiate by backing any call for strike action if it does come to that. Anything else is ultimately just self destructive whether you're in the DB scheme or not, any show of weakness always is.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share
