Amazon don't give an hour slot so why should we? In fact they seldom get the day correct (often early!!) DPD are the best for their slots on a particular day but they are only delivering packets! Considering that for Tracked items the receiver is notified in the morning that the item will be delivered that day it is still surprising how many I bring back even though said receiver has a pretty good idea what time (+/- 1 hour) I get there during the week. If RM are going to give customers slots it needs to be a 2-hour window at least.

Steve, I was just thinking that myself the other day, turned up 1250 at a delivery point for a SD, chatting to recipient said I didn't know whether I was going
to make it as there had been a road diversion, recipient said 'Wasn't bothered about it being here by 1pm, just wanted secure delivery.....". What a waste
of delivery time as then had to double back to complete part of delivery I'd missed by having to get to the SD address by 1pm.

There genuinely is no reason why, given that SD is already a 2 tiered service 9am & 1pm, why they couldn't actually make it a 3 tier service.

9am Guaranteed (most expensive)
1pm Guaranteed
Next Day Guaranteed (least expensive)

All of these would still carry the same terms and conditions regarding compensation and if RM are worried about a loss in revenue, just have the next day fit in at the current 1pm price point and adjust the other products upwards in price. This would have 2 benefits. 1) a decrease in the amount of failures resulting in compensation claims (how many failures on a next day product are there going to be?) and 2) a more efficient way of delivering these items for entire DO's, who have different departure times and duty spans.

As you say, how inefficient is it breaking off at say, 12:30 to catch a 1pm deadline, only to have to return to carry on delivering as normal, possibly wasting 10-15 minutes or more travelling to and from the point of delivery?

And just to add, that 10-15 minutes of wasted time will be double in all likelihood within a van share pairing.

Why worry about wasting time, you're just doing your job. If you can't complete your duty because you have meet the SD deadline then that's a problem for your manager to solve either by offering you overtime or getting your cutoff delivered.

Aw no, I totally understand that. I am speaking from the businesses standpoint - it is massively inefficient if hundreds of posties the length and breadth of the country are having to do this on an almost daily basis.

And no doubt some are conducted for it too for which I for one agree with you.

thats the next plan
Our yard is overcrowded as it is

If i shake my head anymore it may fall off.
Are these cretins really that out of touch with what is going on in the delivery offices?
Why are they ignoring the fact most deliveries are unachievable and to give timescales is absolutely pathetic!!
Moronic and ignorant,We are pissing in the wind with pr**s like this scheming new ways to f**k things up.
