I would think that the same people who sold the 1st lot the minute they were available will do exactly the same as each lot reaches the 3 year stage!
And us that decided not to will hold them till 5 years or keep them as a long term rainy day fund and pocket the dividends along the way

You only pay tax and Nat ins on the first £3.55 of each share. Any value over that figure is tax free.

Assuming the company doesn't go bust in that time and they become worthless. Obviously, I am not expecting that to happen but anything is possible in stocks and shares. It is a gamble either way. Seriously, in the last month I have never met so many experts who have never had a share of anything and that includes me in my life. If you seriously think you are going to get rich by keeping hold of 600 shares in Royal mail you are deluded mate.mark.cup wrote:I would think that the same people who sold the 1st lot the minute they were available will do exactly the same as each lot reaches the 3 year stage!

If you sell now it's 2 grand, if you sell in two years it may be 3 grand, it may be more, it could be less. The only thing I know is, we will continue to get shafted to pay for it.

Unless you have a better investment to put the money into (which would have to be rather significantly better to overcome the "drag" of that money you lost in tax), selling the shares isn't going to make your rich either!Surreypostie wrote:Assuming the company doesn't go bust in that time and they become worthless. Never planning on selling ... My estate can sell them and donate the proceeds to charity when I pop my clogs. (Alternatively if I discover the secret to eternal good health then I guess I'll just be keeping them!Surreypostie wrote:If you sell now it's 2 grand, if you sell in two years it may be 3 grand, it may be more, it could be less. No, going to keep them for a 'rainy day', hopefully as a boost to a lump sum to get out of here in 10 years time when I'm 60, never know what's round the corner though !

Shares are always just as likely to go down as well as up. I remember my Halifax shares which peaked at almost £10 ended at 42p before recovering to 71p!
