Share dealing activity in companies immediately after flotation is typically very high.

In order to manage the anticipated high volumes and provide a route for Royal Mail shareholders who simply wish to sell all their shares during this time, Equiniti is providing a range of services to do so.

Remember the value of shares can go down as well as up and in deciding to sell your shares you may get back less than you have invested.

I have heard, that if the shares are sold for less than the price on the day we were given them , the sale price is only 20% . can this be confirmed ?

Are sellers able to sell via the royalmailemployeeshares.co.uk site from 15th Oct?.
Or is there another Equinti site?

No i think you have misunderstood.

If the sale price is over £4.89 the price we got them at, then we only pay tax as if the value was £4.89.

If the value is less than £4.89 then you pax Tax and NICs on the vale at which they are sold.

No thats the one, there is a tab when you log in for Transfers and sales which must mean you can sell them on that page.

You just confused me TBT, on the RM site or the Equinti site? I presume we have to register with the latter.

The equiniti one - as far as I know you can't sell them on the myroyalmail website, I may be wrong though.

All the information on shares is in the booklet that came with it, I and others have posted loads of links and information as well, a cursory search (provided on site) brought up this from Postie45

No disrespect intended, trueblueterrier, but the link you provided looks to me like a link for those who purchased shares in the original flotation, to be able to sell in the days immediately after the first day of trading, in October 2013.

The clues are there:

it refers to share certificates

the standard warning 'Remember the value of shares can go down as well as up and in deciding to sell your shares you may get back less than you have invested' does not apply to FREE shares. We did not invest anything, we got 'em for nowt !!!

 I should have double checked the link, sorry

This is a better, more specific FAQ, though you have to log in/register to get to it. (You need your nat ins number).

https://www.esp-portal.com/1/EPortal/rm ... mmary.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

which has this gem:
Why can’t I sell my Free Shares in real time the first week I am able to (Saturday 15 October - Sunday 23 October 2016)?

In case the demand to sell SIP 2013 Free Shares from 15 October 2016 means that there are more individual orders to sell Royal Mail shares than can be processed in an orderly way. This could impact the Royal Mail share price and the share price at which employees are able to sell their shares.. To try to reduce that impact, we have asked Equiniti to combine all sell requests that are made on the same day. Equiniti’s brokers will then try to sell the shares at the best possible share price over the course of the following days. The period of time over which the shares are sold will be affected by how many employees choose to sell their shares on any given day. It is likely, but not certain, that the price at which your shares are sold will be somewhere between the highest and lowest share price on the stock market on the day they are sold. If you sell your shares the first week you are able to, you will not be able to see the share price at which your shares are sold until after they are sold. All employees who make a sell request on the same day will sell their shares at the same share price. So it does not matter what time of day you make your sell request.

So, if you sell next week, you have
* no certainty on which day your shares will be sold
* no idea in advance what price they will be sold for :left:

Let's look at the situation

8.6% of Royal Mail's shares were given to employees in October 2013 (the other 1.4% of the initial 10% had to be allocated later, due to the spectacular rise in price on Day 1)
Let's say about one-fifth of employees decide to sell, next week.
That's a hell of a lot of shares coming onto the market. Almost 2% of the entire shares of the company.

Logic suggests there will be a big fall in the share price come Monday.

I'm going to predict, however, that Equiniti will offer chunks of shares to the highest bidder. Pension funds and investment companies cannot normally buy a big stake in a company without the price moving against them, i.e. up. If they approach Equiniti, however, and offer a good price (slightly more than the price in the market), they could seize 2% of the company in one fell swoop.

I'm going to go against the grain, and predict that Royal Mail's share price will go back above 500p next week. And no, I am not selling, and giving £959 to HM Government. They've had enough tax and NI off me this year already !
