Been watching this guy argue the toss for us but to no avail I think... poor sod doesn't even work for RM!
Perhaps its time we helped him... lol!

Remember, the way you do you job will affect colleagues for years to come - if you cut corners to do it quick, they will be expected to as well....and then RM will add extra work to fill the gaps.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: If all the Public hears on the news is RM propoganda, they will believe it. Where the f**k is our point of view in the media?Biggins wrote:http://www.neforum2.co.uk/smf/index.php ... w.html#new

No-where, because the CWU can't be bothered to put the TRUTH out there!
As a result, most of the Public won't believe the truth anyway, because it's coming from Strikers, not the press!

Re: I Don't think the public are behind us!
Actually I think the CWU have been trying, they have had 2 full page adds in nationals. However, as AL and AC have their fingers in the media pie and probably direct contact with Murdoch Enterprises they have won the PR war hands down. Also I have heard that all other nationals were approached but refused to carry the adverts.andy2007 wrote:I've said it before, and I'll say it again: If all the Public hears on the news is RM propoganda, they will believe it. Have they tried ITN?
Have they tried ITN, loacal Radio, etc.?
I know that they have tried to put newspaper ads in, but how many people still read a newspaper cover to cover?
Apart from a poor interview on the BBC, and a good report on Radio 4. I have neither seen or heard anything of consequence in the news. And that isn't much over so many months.
Other than what has been shown from the Picket Lines.
I realise that I am being a bit hard on them, but when I am having trouble even convincing my own relatives that this isn't just about money and going home early. It doesn't look good.

A prime example of how the media treat this kind of dispute now could been seen on our picket line on the first day of action...We had a news team from the local ITV station turn up, aksed our branch secretary for an interview and a good piece it would have been too...Then they went in the MC and interviewed some numpty in a suit...I watched the broad cast, guess who was on there, it wasn't our branch sec that's for sure. They'd cut the entire segemtn...When I mailed the blighters to complain they came back with "we only have a limited amount of time for each repor." BS...I shot back a reply sying we'd had far better coverage from the local bbeb radio and they asked if they could come back...Still didn't see the buggers anytime up til the last day of action....The media don't or won't care until it effects them. As happened with the BBC...Then they bleat on about losing 1800 jobs....The CWU needs to get it's bottom into gear if it's going to keep the public and members on side...Whomever we have in the position that deals with PR needs shooting

A steady stream of info is necessary - see Kate and Gerry McCann as an example.
Royal Mail got the last word with their 'successful agreement' story - check Google news and see the lat time rm was mentioned in connection with the strike in the mainstream media.
People have extremely short memories - to keep a campaign alive means being concerned what the public are thinking and making sure they have something to chew on, every day if possible.
As far as I know, the public think it's all over now.

Re: I Don't think the public are behind us!
After nearly 30 years of Thatcherite rhetoric which has helped to shape the public we have today, we might as well do thisBiggins wrote:http://www.neforum2.co.uk/smf/index.php ... w.html#new

bog ourselves down in a battle we can't win. If we get some support from the general public, fine. If not, so what? We have a fight on our hands with
the gruesome twosome, we have a general public who are largely hostile to strikes and strikers. I know which one deserves my utmost energies.

The public have been pretty much kept in the dark throughout this dispute from what I can gather from people on my walk. When I have explained to them the full story and that the pay deal isn't really a big part of why we were strking, they were fully behind us. I have only ever seen one union rep discuss the situation on the news and he still failed to put across what the dispute was really about. The big issue that seems to get reported is that due to the RM losing 20% of its business to rivals, the management need to make cut backs. They fail to say we still deliver the final mile and our work load is increasing because of this, they also fail to mention that we have to do it at a loss. So the public perception is that we are just refusing to modernise or work harder. They also haven't been informed that in recent years walks have already increased in size, sorting jobs have been cut and delivery postmen already do more sorting in the office because of this.
Royal mail workers have done a hell of a lot to make this business a success, supposedly turning around a massive annual loss into a tidy profit... only to find mysteriously that this profit once more turned into a massive loss the following year?
As has been mentioned before, there really needs to be made more of an effort to put the full story across to the public, I think most would support us if they were given the full facts in some way?
