Safe place

Post by weary_posty »

A certain broadband supplier sends out a lot of tracked items with a safe place message of "somewhere undercover and out of sight"

This week already I've had to deal with 6 cases of people being "coached" due to the safe place not being safe

- Top floor of a time locked flat
- Greenhouse/Shed
- Gas meter cupboard
- Log Store

Now each of these examples in my mind are under cover and out of sight yet people are getting pulled up on it.
I imagine we'll be hearing a different tune when the tracked FTD figures are down

What is a "safe place"?
Inside the rle.
Inside the van.
Inside the house where it is supposed to be delivered.
Follow these simple actions to ensure we get it right every time:
  • Always make sure items that can fit through a letterbox are pushed all the way through
    Never leave items hanging out
Never leave items that cannot be delivered through a letterbox at the property unless the item has alternative delivery instructions
If the Safeplace instruction presents a risk to your safety, leaves the item unprotected from the weather or in full view and liable to theft, do not leave it there. In this scenario, Delivery to Neighbour should be attempted before returning the item to the office
Safe Place
RM Tracked 24/48 items may be labelled with a Safe Place instruction. If the customer is not in, this instruction should be followed and the parcel left in the designated place, if it is safe and secure to do so.

If an RM Tracked 24/48 parcel does not display a Safe Place instruction, Delivery to Neighbour should always be used if the customer is not in.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

With very few exceptions, such as a lockable box, there is no such thing as a "safeplace" - if you can get to it, so can someone else, so it isn't safe.

The only safe place is back in the locker. simple, I dont have the time to wander around the street trying to find aneighbour in either, so back it goes.

Why even give the customer the option of a safe place ?
shouldn't royal mail just get rid of this option
and stick to deliver to neighbour?

Was under the impression that safeplace should be followed as that makes them fully responsible should the item go missing, they have said it is safe. If it says propped up by the lampost outside my house then we can do exactly that, scan it as delivered to safeplace and job done.

Exactly what our DIM tells us, it's not upto us to judge if it safe or not, the customer has made that decision for us.

Ranging from denial of receipt to not asking for their parcel to be left "safe"

But if the parcel is stolen, how do you prove what the label said?

The problem with these ones is it appears to be the company sending the items putting a standard keep safe message on them rather than the customer choosing their own specific safe place. If the point of safeplace is that the person receiving the item chooses the safeplace and takes responsibility for the safety of the item after it's been left there then Royal Mail really should get on to the customer sending these items and ask them to stop just putting an across the board standard keepsake message on it.

Because any instruction in the little box on the label can be traced.

If you got a smartphone just take a pic of the safe place note on parcel.

No such place as a SAFEPLACE apart from giving it to the recipient. END OF
Whatever is written on the parcel is 9 times out of 10 from the sender, not worth it
I never leave parcels anywhere and i bring them back if not in. Bollox to RM wanting delivery 1st time, if the person is not in I docket 739 every time.
If I get problems with people not being able to find parcels left , you then know full well it must have been from your day off or someone doing your cut off
