My manager is claiming that I'm entitled to a 20-minute break for 4 hours, 30 minutes for 6 hours and and 40 minutes for 8 hours.
 Your manager is right!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

No its correct, just that your manager has mentioned specific hours rather than the range that the breaks cover.

As what Teebs said, sorry my bad for not explaining it properly.
I had to lie down for a while as a manager had told the truth.

Managers havent got a clue. Weve recently had a mini revision but they dont know what breaks part timers are due ! How on earth they worked out what could or couldnt be added on to duties is beyond me. Think they just asked the brown nosers and shafted the junior part timers. Anyways I just take my full entitlement and claim accordingly. Perhaps the CWU should issue a guide to new starts with some crucial info to stop management taking the p..s.

This WAS posted on our union board after I requested it. Mysteriously it disappeared a week or two later. Union rep claimed he knew nothing about it, but then DID nothing about it. :no no

Is there any document that says that if you don't take at least 20 mins before delivery commences you lose it i.e. You can't take the full mins meal relief at the end of your duty. I need to put somebody straight about this they reckon that my not taking any form of a meal relief that they can finish 40 mins earlier.

You can not have all of your meal relief scheduled at the end of any duty.

Where an attendance is provided with more than one break, the second break may be scheduled at the beginning or end, in which case attendance is not required solely for booking on or off. A single break should not be scheduled at the beginning or end of the attendance.

Think it means you don't have to go back to the office (attend) to sign for completion of your duty. I'm assuming that's
in a scenario where you might be nearer to home than the DO at the end of your duty and your P&L partner will drive back
to the office with any parcels, letters, PDA's etc., or you have permission to take van home and don't have anything to take back to the DO.

Edit: TBT's more knowledgeable explanation below is what it's supposed to mean, but I've seen guys do the above (which is probably not what it's supposed to mean
but the wording is not very clear, how about 'you don't have to hang around the office for 20 minutes'????)

If you have one of your 20-minute breaks at the end of your shift, you can sign out then (20 minutes earlier than your shift ends) instead of waiting till your finishing time to do so.

Hi there, can someone tell me please.

1)...
I am full time and it is required that I must take my first twenty minute break at some point during my duty time. Does this absolutely have to in the middle of my duty time? Can it be toward the end of my duty?

The reason why I ask this is because my house is ''on route'', back to the office.

2)...
If I take my second 20 minute break at the end of my duty, (as per ''The Way Forward'') how does it work if I go over my finishing time.

Eg. 14.30 minus meal break = 14.10.

If I have not taken my second 20 minute meal break and I have gone over 14.10 by half an hour. Can I claim half an hour.

I'm sorry, I am struggling with my wording with my second question. I hope someone can work out what I'm trying to ask.

Many thanks.

Your duty should have a plan regarding breaks, you can't make it up as you go along.
