Re: The "How was your day" thread.
Came home feeling truly awful - made to take out everything even though I knew I wouldn't complete - told to ring in, but of course no-one answered the phone! Felt so crap putting it all back in the frame - two and half hours after I should have finished. Hate to think how many parcels there will be tomorrow.......

Re: The "How was your day" thread.
all credit to you for throwing it back in, but you know you didnt have to do that right ? let managers do some managing and have them prep it back in or god forbid hire some temporary workers to help with this excess mail. You dont have to feel responsible for the mail not getting delivered if youve worked to a fair pace in your scheduled hours.movingon wrote:Came home feeling truly awful - made to take out everything even though I knew I wouldn't complete - told to ring in, but of course no-one answered the phone! Three words. Work. To. Time. Your office should have extra staff now as there is no annual leave, and extra packet delivery duties. If you don't want the overtime, inform the line manager of how much you can do. We have been leaving a rammed full York of packets for starters and a loop as well some days. Normal mail levels, we complete on time, this time of yr, no chance, that's why your manager should have a plan in place to help you out. Stand your ground and be polite.movingon wrote:Came home feeling truly awful - made to take out everything even though I knew I wouldn't complete - told to ring in, but of course no-one answered the phone! Re: The "How was your day" thread.
Well we're now leaving a row of mail but we were told by that we HAD to take all the parcels no matter what and that they were a priority. Still finishing over by 30-60 minutes. No doubt I'll get a call asking to come in tomorrow, I've been told that they're struggling like hell at the minute. There was suppose to be 11 new starters along side me and there's only four of us left, it's almost like they don't give a crap and expect us to work until it's darkPostie45 wrote:YES you can come back on time, your contracted hours is all you have to work, overtime is OPTIONAL. If you think you wont complete the workload before you go out on delivery, make sure to tell the manager that you wont complete in duty time. Theyll probably ask if you can stay out. Remember its up to you what you do with your own time, dont be bullied into staying out if you dont want to do it.camelelf wrote:One and a half yorks of parcels on a tuesday, is that normal? Hour over and have the worst pain in the top left of my foot. I want to go see a doctor tomorrow but I know I'm not going to be back in time, can I simply say I want to finish on my time instead of going over?
Also had my first complaint with a customer swearing at me for a letter being wet last week after the worst rain I've ever seen. What a fun day.
Also regarding yorks of packets, we probably had 3 full today so yeah its now normal, RM has attempted to make duties on maximising our time for most of the year, The problems come when we get about 50-100% more packets at this time of year (and probably more than that, i hohestly dont have time to count!) yet RM makes no plans for this mail to be delivered apart from "can you stay out and complete?"

A shi**er of a day today. Parcels galore, didn't get out until 10.15 and didn't finish until 4. They didn't want to pay any overtime but they did't want you bringing it back either, they want you to work for free!

Re: The "How was your day" thread.
Thanks Postie45 and rambo1
Yes I knew I didn't have to put it back in the frame but they don't have anyone properly prepping the frame - I start at 8 - they expect the guys doing the surrounding duties to do it and they don't always have the time. I didn't want to arrive to mayhem. As it turned out it was mental this morning, more than twice as many the parcels. I told our rep what had happened and that I was happy to work overtime to complete the job but not if I was being treated like that. He got on the case and we ended up taking only what we could manage today - a good day! Got back late but finished.
Certainly doesn't seem as if they have a plan in our office - if they do it's a bad one!!

Sod of a day - packets through the roof and our DOM quibbling about overtime. Is this a national standard now - that they refuse to pay overtime even at Christmas? I told him he could pay me or deliver it himself. One bit of good news though...they found the Special I posted on Tuesday, so that'll be the postage refunded and an extra £5!

Re: The "How was your day" thread.
Seen the weather forecast was predicting 50mph+ winds and heavy rain starting after 2ish so went in and right away informed lino wasn't working past my time and he tried to say we would finish, loaded everything on to the yorkie and left 4 loops to the side, told him I could take them and phone him but I had no chance of completing and he started on about the time it took us to do the D2D and packets, said it was embarrassing.
Was still over by 20 minutes but missed the worst of the weather that is now blowing a hooly.

Don't get this job sometimes. Went over everyday last week and today finished a hour early. Sunny warm day didn't feel like December one bit.

Told by one manager to come in at a later time of 08:39 for xmas instead of the usual 08:25 and finish later, get a phone call from a different manager at 07:10 'Where are you? You're suppose to be in at 7am'.
