The First Minister said that she would make Ed Miliband bring the postal delivery service back into public hands if he was forced to rely on SNP support at Westminster.
Ms Sturgeon has already vowed to manipulate the Labour leader into adopting a raft of radical left-wing policies if the parties enter into an agreement following the general election.
It comes just two years after the Royal Mail was privatised, allowing it to compete fairly with companies such as Amazon and taking its pensions deficit out of public hands.
Taking it back into public hands would cost the taxpayer around £3billion with the cost likely to push the price of deliveries up significantly.
Details of the plan were revealed in the SNP manifesto, which states the aim of “the return of Royal Mail to public ownership”. But the plans have been criticised as yet another uncosted Nationalist promise.
Liberal Democrat candidate Danny Alexander, who oversaw the privatisation as Chief Secretary to the Treasury, said: “The key question is where would they get the money? The Nationalists’ figures are so full of holes they are worse than a Swiss cheese.
“These are makey-uppey numbers from the SNP. They propose full fiscal autonomy, which would cost £10billion-a-year, they propose to borrow more and then there’s this renationalisation of the Royal Mail, which would cost £3billion – and they have absolutely no idea where the money is coming from to pay for that. Most Scots will just not believe a word of it. The SNP are fiscally incompetent.”
The SNP government brought the loss-making Prestwick Airport into public ownership in November 2013, fearing that closure would end 1,500 jobs in the area. At the time, then Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the airport would be sold within a few years. But a revised business plan set out by Scottish Government ministers last May revealed that public funds amounting to £6million will have to be pumped into the facility by 2022.
An SNP spokesman said: “SNP MPs voted against the privatisation of Royal Mail under this Tory-Lib Dem Government and we are clear that the Royal Mail should be returned to public ownership over time in order to provide the best possible service to people in Scotland and the UK.”

I think we can draw a line through that now ....

The electorate has now elected Cameron and his crew partly on the basis that he will stand up to the Scottish Nationalists... I'm not optimistic that he won't just give in to Sturgeon. Hes already agreed to talks...why not just ignore her? - she is not even a UK MP? strange times.

She is a UK MP, just of a different parliament. Also is it really a good idea to ignore the people who voted for her party, that would be the quickest way for the Nationalists to get Independence. Also the impression I got was that he was using the fear of a SNP/Labour coalition rather than any standing up to anyone.JKSmudge wrote:The electorate has now elected Cameron and his crew partly on the basis that he will stand up to the Scottish Nationalists... The level of political ignorance in this post makes me weep.JKSmudge wrote:The electorate has now elected Cameron and his crew partly on the basis that he will stand up to the Scottish Nationalists... I think it's time to have a basic minimum educational standard to vote.

got to agree with that one Fishtank. I listened to a radio phone in yesterday with regards to the election result and some of the comments were laughable. a disabled chap rang in and said he was now concerned about his benefits. he than eluded to the fact he voted Conservative !! then a Jewish lady [ from a socialist family ] said she did not vote for Milliband because of the picture of him eating a bacon sandwich. fair enough I suppose but in the next sentence she admitted to often having a bacon sandwich herself !!
