Royal Mail Group - Fire Safety Week 1st to 7th June 2015:

This is early notification to all Area Safety Reps that the Health, Safety & Environment Department are in discussions with the Royal Mail Group National Fire Safety Manager regarding a joint RMG/CWU approach to this year's Fire Safety Week.

The purpose of Fire Safety Week is to raise the profile and awareness of fire safety and keep it in focus and understood, ensuring it is supported at all levels.

The plan is that all the tasks undertaken during Fire Safety Week will be those that are a requirement of fire safety regulation and Royal Mail's own Fire Safety Standards which are included as part of the responsibilities of the PiC.

The Fire Safety documentation is to be reviewed, refreshed, updated and amended to reflect recent changes.

Work time learning will be used to ensure building users understand their duties and

responsibilities toward fire safety for example: understand emergency evacuation procedures or where unacceptable working practices have been identified.

There will be a five-day fire safety program over one week. Each day's activity being set out as set out below with the objective being to:-

Improve fire safety compliance,
Raise fire safety awareness and
Protect people and property.
The week's program will be set out to raise the awareness of fire safety for both managers and CWU members, provide a focused time for managers and CWU Safety Reps to review the fire safety compliance requirements are met.

Each day's activity will be designed to flow through to the next culminating in an awareness program, involving all building users and especially those with a fire safety responsibility.

CWU ASRs and WSRs are encouraged to be fully, proactively involved in the Fire Safety Week's Programme and activities, fully supporting the week which is proposed as follows:-

Day 1. Review the Fire Risk Assessment and Premises Fire Evacuation Plan

Day 2. Building Fire Safety Tour

Day 3. Manager briefing and Work Time Learning

(a) Briefing session for managers, fire wardens and CWU safety representatives.
The findings of the FRA Review, revision to the Fire Evacuation Plan and observations from the fire safety tours to be discussed and issues raised / resolved.
(b) Work time learning for all building users on the Premises Fire Evacuation Plan,
Roles and responsibilities, fire wardens, buddies' duties, individual responsibilities, calling the emergency services, location of fire equipment, evacuation routes and assembly points, providing information to the PiC/Incident Officer .

Day 4. Fire Evacuation Drill

Day 5. FRA Review e-learning
