Security checks....
Hi all, just wandered if anyone can shed any light on the actual security checking process? Is it just a DBS check? Is there a credit check? My credit file isn't in the greatest shape but I'd hate that to affect my chances of employment because of some debt i racked up when I was younger. Reading through threads they do DBS checks and possibly voters checks. I'm at the security check stage noe as you've Probably gathered! ️Thankyou all kindly in advance for any genuine, knowledgable information you have

Re: Security checks....
As far as I am aware they do NOT do a Credit check, in fact there is no need to.
The only concerns would be if you were a Bankrupt and defaulted, or there was a CCJ raised against you for any reason. However, the rehabilitation of offenders act applies in both cases so if you are beyond the limits for them it shouldn't affect your chances.
The background checks are really to check against instances of theft, dishonesty, violence etc, not poor financial planning.

Re: Security checks....
️Thankyou very much for your response terrier. I do have a CCJ that's what concerns me but it's not because of fraud or dishonesty etc it's as you say just poor financial planning etc in the past. IM not bankrupt or insolvent so I don't know how deep the financial check Is?!?! I already have an enhanced crb etc so im not concerned about that side of things. Hopefully it's just a footprint check to make sure there's no fraud and im on electoral roll. Nobody really seems to know definitively what is actually checked. Thanks again pal.

Re: Security checks....
The CCJ will probably show, but it shouldn't affect your recruitment especially if you have either settled it, or are keeping to the payments. Even if not, as long as you are paying it off it will show that. But if your cleared on an enhanced CRB check I can see no problems as RM only do the Basic Disclosure.
Good luck, but don't forget this is not official advice so it might be worth checking with CAB or an employment solicitor to get authoritative information.

Re: Security checks....
Thanks again terrier. After exhaustive searching through forums and internet it seems the main thing they check is you don't have a criminal record especially an unspent one. I'll soon know anyway but sincerely hope everything will be ok :) do you work for Royal Mail terrier?

Its the best job I have ever had, and that includes time in the forces. But there are issues as with most jobs. In the end though its what you make of it.
