Supply chain

Post by Chilli pepper »

This week manages at our depot have been holding 121 sessions with crew in cit with regards to redundancies and are insisting we re apply for our jobs by filling out cv s many of the staff are bewildered and angry but have had no official advise from the union on what to do whether we can refuse or not to fill these forms in . Just wondered what the feeling is around other depots and if any advise has been given to them

hi chilli pepper, I am currently on the pat and mick and my manager has sent me a recorded delivery for a 1 to 1meeting asap even tho I am still on the sick, I am at the age that I am not looking forward to the big changes that will be happening, and as I am second in line for any offer about leaving, I feel that I should maybe attend to find out what is involved, but here is a question - if say for instance, three people were to be offered to leave on vr in my depot and they got 3 volunteers, would they be out the door before the 90 day period is up, or would they have to wait till the end of the 90 days and then it would be bye bye soon after, any thoughts on this matter would be grateful,

Hi Wardy, thanks for your reply I had my 121 before knowing you could refuse to go here's what it involves proper gander about how poor they are and changes have to happen ie ALL ONE MAN VANS and all new runs and time of working ,I was then given a form asking if I wanted VR also forms to fill in with a cv applying for a job that I have been doing for 27 years ,about the 90day it was my understanding that yes there is a possibility of going if all parties agree but what concerns me is that as far as I can make out from the union there has been no agreement to hold these 121 s and you can refuse to go but they have stopped short in sending written confirmation of this ,so yet again we are left confused in what to do they want to scare people into going . Here's the thing I to want VR but want to know what I will get before filling any forms for a job but this is proving very difficult to do .

You need to get your union rep to be more pro active. the CWU are issuing ltb's and the latest one states.
Compulsory Redundancies
All Branches are urged to meet with our members as a matter of urgency and to highlight the very real threats to our members' jobs and livelihoods. To put this into context, the scale of the maximum job losses from amongst CViT crews alone is 196 jobs from 689 to 493, which is a reduction of 28%. Also, the scale of job losses amongst Admin grades is comparable. So the threat of Compulsory Redundancy is very real despite Post Office communications issued today, which seeks to dumb down the scale of the potential risk to our members (copies attached).
Branches are also reminded that the preference exercise has been instigated without any negotiation or discussion with this Union, and the actions of the Post Office are completely outwith the terms of MTSF. More pertinently is the fact that management have stated the following in correspondence received on 17th November, which accompanied the legal HR1 form "Advance notification of redundancies":
"Our proposals may result in some employees being made surplus, and if unresolved after 90 days, redundant."
"Should Voluntary Redundancy be under-subscribed, desktop exercises will take place on a depot-by-depot basis to select surplus colleagues to be made redundant".
The 90 days consultation for Supply Chain members commenced on November 25th, which means that on day 91, 24th February 2015, the Post Office, in accordance with the quotes above, will make any member who is deemed to be unresolved surplus at that point Compulsory Redundant. Patently, this is the most serious attack by Post Office management that our members have ever faced and this is something the Union will not tolerate under any circumstances. This is why it is so important that all members support a call for strike action should this be necessary in the coming days.
Our advice to members remains the same (in line with LTB 773 dated 26th November) regarding the non-completion of preference forms and attending one-to-one interviews with line managers. As a consequence of our advice to members, this has led to what can only be described as an overreaction from some line managers.
This and other details are also on the Cwu members site, just log in with your pay number of membership number

Post Office are pulling all the stops out to push through job losses. The union's info is on their website but if you can't get it contact them and the local office will keep you right as your rep is off, they could send you the info through email.
The latest letter to branches is posted below.

Post Office: Admin & Supply Chain Pay Dispute - UPDATE
Further to LTB 787 dated 3rd December.
As Branches are aware, we held negotiations with the Post Office (via two senior ACAS conciliators) at ACAS' offices on Monday 1st and Wednesday 3rd December. At the conclusion of the meeting on Wednesday, the following Joint Statement was agreed:
Post Office Admin and Supply Chain
PO Management and CWU representatives met for a second day of talks at Acas on 3rd December. The talks adjourned and the parties will meet again on Monday 8th December
Major Job Losses
Today, Thursday 4th December, we are meeting with the Post Office with regards to the formal legal consultation for their proposals for significant job losses across Admin & Supply Chain units. ACAS are not involved in this meeting.
Branches and members are reminded that the Union has had absolutely no input or influence with regards to the Post Office's plans for job losses. Consequently, until such time as the MTSF agreement is being adhered to and we fully understand and are comfortable with the process, members are instructed to refuse to attend one-to-one meetings, and should not fill in a preference form or provide a CV.
Compulsory Redundancy - High on the Post Office's Agenda
Contrary to the fact that the Post Office has toned down its reference to Compulsory Redundancy (CR) in recent communications, the threat of CR is still firmly on the table. Only this morning, we received from the Post Office a document which contained a proposal which included the following statement:
"... at the conclusion of a minimum 90 day collective consultation period, Post Office Ltd reserves the right to treat a surplus employee without a suitable alternative role and having declined to exercise their option to depart the business on voluntary redundancy terms as having potentially 'self-selected' the termination of their employment by reason of redundancy, on statutory redundancy compensation terms."
Branches should note that this proposal has been rejected, as Compulsory Redundancy as a principle is integral to this proposal. Additionally the Post Office refers to "statutory redundancy" terms, which are grossly inferior to the terms offered under MTSF if members were to opt for Voluntary Redundancy (VR).
It is clear that the Post Office is trying to shoe-horn members into opting for VR by using deliberate and underhand tactics such as this to frighten people into thinking they will get a far worse settlement if they do not take the Voluntary Redundancy route.
Strike Action
We currently have an inadequate pay offer, along with the conditionality of job losses, and also the very real threat of Compulsory Redundancy. Faced with this extremely serious situation, serving notice for strike action is imminent.
Further details, along with advice and guidance for Branches and members will be provided following today's meeting.
Please ensure this LTB gets the widest possible circulation amongst our Admin & Supply Chain Members.
Yours sincerely
Andy Furey Dave Ward
Assistant Secretary Deputy General Secretary (P)

As you can see, it is important you receive all this info. If you are still struggling getting this info, post on here and I will post any info. Hope this helps.

Hi chilli, I was in an armed robbery attempt many years ago when I was prodded with shotgun and had a pistol at my neck, I am still working as a crew member. I was given 150 pounds worth of vouchers from the company but I was told by my union to to contact the union lawyers regarding criminal injuries etc, I received about one and a half thousand pounds and that my friend hopefully puts some light on the subject.

It might be a daft question but will those staff that take VR get the £1,400 or is that just for those that stay .
