anyone else hours been changed over xmas?
Had our hours changed to start at 530 for the next month starting tomorrow.
A lot of us don't agree with it but manager has set it is settled.
Apparently an email was sent to the union rep but he is based elsewhere and doesn't ever give a crap about our office so we never see him.
Are they allowed to do this for a start?
If I come in at my usual hours is there anything they can do?
Should we be getting 30 mins unsociable hours pay per shift?
Surely this means our finish time moves to 13:30 instead of 14:30, so do I have every right to cut off at this time regardless of the time of year?

Re: anyone else hours been changed over xmas?
I'm not sure they can do that with such short notice but they seem to do what theylike these days. I am sure they cannot extend your hours by 5 a week so your finish time must be an hour earlier. Book it or cut off. This is going to be the worst xmas ever due to the staff shortages.

No he can't change your hours of contract without agreement or giving you sufficient notice.
Tell him you will be starting on your contracted start time, and put in a grievance.

They are coming to take us away

I wish my manager would make us start at half 5.
Perhaps this was agreed with your Union rep earlier this month but he hasn't communicated this fully to all staff?

As said, no he can't change your start time without agreement. To do so is executive action, which is not allowed.
That said, I would grab the early start with both hands, earlier start means an earlier finish, plus you WILL be entitled to the unsociable hours bonus. So that will be 30 minutes every day.
So tell your DOM, that starting at 5:30 will trigger the unsociable hours bonus, which is 30 minutes, from 5:30 to 6:00 and failure to pay will mean a grievance going in.

4. Would you be prepared to do Evening Packets.

I feel this is a very fair way,if people want loads of docket they can,if they don't they wont.

There is no shift allowance payment for a 5.30 am start.pod25 wrote:As said, no he can't change your start time without agreement. To do so is executive action, which is not allowed.

Final early shift allowance would be for work carried out between 05.01 - 05.30 time band.
The flexibility agreement allows for a +/- of 30 minutes but is on a voluntary basis.
If you are starting 30 minutes earlier on your recognised shift then you will finish 30 minutes earlier and you then inform DOM that you do not intend to work O/t and will be making contact with regards to the cutting off procedure.

Re: anyone else hours been changed over xmas?
I have been told I have got to work evenings until 9pm even though I told them I dont want to do it, you are a reserve you have no choice. No one in the office was ask to do evening packets just 4 reserves were told they have no choice. One of the reserves is a women who was also on evenings last year even though she told them she didn't feel safe and was scared. The guy who does the duties has his favorites and our union rep has just told us to put in a grievance, but this is no good this year. the lady postie is my wife and in the new year we are looking for new jobs, Royal Mail has become a joke...

RM have a duty of care, whether they like it or not. Doms have been trained (or should have been) but its the line managers who are RM's biggest problem. Your rep should be kicked out for not stepping in.robbo44 wrote:No its all true....pod25 wrote:You have to be making this up ?robbo44 wrote:I have been told I have got to work evenings until 9pm even though I told them I dont want to do it, you are a reserve you have no choice. Re: anyone else hours been changed over xmas?
Realise that you are all reserves but you all must work within designated starting and finishing times that is the requirement of the delivery function but having to work until 9pm is well outwith your reserve duties and is in fact a shift change.robbo44 wrote:I have been told I have got to work evenings until 9pm even though I told them I dont want to do it, you are a reserve you have no choice. Who is covering the 4 floating duties on the early shift when you are all doing packets until 9 pm ?
Is your office offering SA arrangements over the xmas period and can the evening packet duty be structured into the SA arrangements.
Are agency staff been employed to cover the early shift duties that the 4 of you would have covered?
Incorporated within your contract of employment is a DUTY OF CARE and if working outwith your normal assigned duties has an effect on your personal circumstances then RM has to take this into consideration.
You need to take this matter to the DSM and the area union rep pronto as you will have commenced this evening duty by the time your grievance is heard.
There should be sufficient staff employed in your office at this time to cover the evening packet duty without causing a disruption to yours.
Needs better planning arrangements.
