PENSIONER Jean Parker is furious that her post has been stopped – as the postman said her dog bit his leg.

The 75-year-old said her dog, a corgi named Leo, did not touch the postman, when he appeared unexpectedly at her open door on October 7.

Mrs Parker, of Beauchamp Avenue, Gosport, said: ‘My dog was outside saying goodbye to my sister’s carers, they love him.

‘It was raining so I threw a towel over him to dry him off. I didn’t hear the postman come in through the gate.

‘Leo ran out and he didn’t get near enough before I called him back. The postman then started to look at his leg saying the dog had bitten him.

‘He had shorts on and I looked and there was nothing there – no marks, scrapes or blood.’

Mrs Parker said that since then no mail has been delivered and when she saw the postman a few days later she challenged him, only to be told that she would not be getting any post.

Now she said she is confused and upset as she has not been able to get any answers from Royal Mail.

Mrs Parker said: ‘It is very worrying that I am not getting post. I’m waiting for appointments from the hospital, for news of my sister who is unwell and for bills. I’m expecting mail from abroad with bad news in.

‘No-one will talk to me or tell me happening.

‘No-one can tell me anything and the depot won’t even tell me the manager’s name.

‘They said they are investigating but I have not heard anything,

‘They should not be holding on to it. People have paid for stamps so it will be delivered.’

Mrs Parker is adamant that Leo, who she got from a rescue charity three years ago, would never bite anyone.

She said: ‘Everybody loves him. The vet says he’s a little gem. He’s got a good reputation.

‘Why this maniac has decided to say this is beyond me. I am not going to say my dog has bitten him, when he did not.’

Royal Mail confirmed it was witholding Mrs Parker’s post while and investigation was held.

It said the postman required hospital treatment and Mrs Parker could collect post from the Gosport delivery office

I await the libel case brought by the postman against Mrs Parker.

What a charmer,I hope he does sue her for slander, if he is making up the incident,why did he have to have hospital tteatment.

I had one today that blatantly allowed the dog out of the door as it is that hard to pick up a small door and leave them somewhere else before opening a door to a postman.

'He wont hurt you' but he did put his paws all over me - I do not want that, thank you very much! Sometimes the paws scratch and sometimes they are dirty with mud sticking to one's trousers...

Maniac postman that delivers letters everywhere all of sudden will like to get some sort of rise out of withholding a pensioner's mail or take a sickie or get compensation... What a maniac

Their response? '....but he doesn't bite!'

Total blindness to their adored pooch's bad behaviour!

POST has started to be delivered again to a house where a dog bit a postman’s leg.

Pensioner Jean Parker said she was relieved that the service has been resumed after her postman refused to deliver to her following the incident on October 7.

The 75-year-old denies that her corgi Leo went anywhere near the postman, although a Royal Mail spokesman said the postman was so badly injured he needed hospital treatment.

Mrs Parker was left without post, including details of hospital appointments and bills, 
while Royal Mail held an investigation.

Mrs Parker, of Beauchamp Avenue, Gosport, came to The News as she was not getting answers from Royal Mail.

When contacted by The News, a spokesman from Royal Mail said they had suspended deliveries to her house and that she had been informed of this – by letter.

However, they were not sure who had delivered this letter.

Following The News’ intervention, Royal Mail met Mrs Parker and agreed to reinstate her service.

Mrs Parker said: ‘The manager came round and brought all my post with him.

‘He said that my service has been resumed as long as Leo is kept under control.

‘I just hope this will be the end of it now.’

A spokesperson for Royal Mail said: ‘We take the health and safety of our employees very seriously and we have sought assurances from the dog owner that the dog in question will be kept secured when we undertake deliveries.’

Research conducted by Royal Mail earlier this year showed an increase in dog attacks on postmen and women.

It said there were more than 3,300 dog attacks on postmen and women between April 2013 to April 2014 – an average of nine per day, some leading to a permanent disabling injury.

Royal Mail says this number has risen by eight per cent since 2012.
