The postmen and women from Aubigny-sur-Nere, Haddington’s twin town, have been on strike fore more than 100 days.

They are in conflict with the French postal service and contacted the Courier for help.

A spokesman for the Aubigny-sur-Nere strikers told us: “Our employer, the French Post, is intending to suppress nine of our 31 post distribution-circuits, which is in our eyes totally unacceptable.

“We are not interested in higher productivity when personal security and quality of services aren’t guaranteed.

“That’s why we ask workers in Haddington, our Scottish twin-town, for some solidarity, in any form: an article in the local newspaper, a declaration which we could place on our own website, or any other initiative would be a great contribution and be useful to get a solution to this conflict.”

Gary Clark, assistant secretary for the No.2 branch of the Communication Workers Union, which represents Haddington postal staff, backed the French workers.

He said: “We will do all we can here to raise their cause amongst postal workers across the area. We will also send some financial support to them as well.”
The spokesman for the strikers said that the area’s mayor had decided not to get involved in the situation, which reached the 100th day of a stand-off on Tuesday.

The spokesman added: “In the past hundred days, we, the 16 postmen on strike, didn’t get any opportunity to negotiate on the first three points of the strike notice, but even this contempt, the intimidations and the censorship couldn’t affect our strong motivation.

“The balance of power changed, we are strong and we are sure each support we get can be the one which will break the wall raised by the direction of the Post.

“We really need your support and thank you warmly for it.”

"They are in conflict with the French postal service and contacted the Courier for help." - that's the East Lothian Courier not the Courier we're all too familiar with. :Very Happy

A spokesman for the Aubigny-sur-Nere strikers told us: “Our employer, the French Post, is intending to suppress nine of our 31 post distribution-circuits, which is in our eyes totally unacceptable."

So is "suppress nine of our 31 post distribution-circuits" French for lapsing nine of the 31 walks ?
