Use of Trolleys

Explain the terrain of your walk why you say the walk can't be done in a trolley mate. Have you got flats on this round? steep inclines on your route? Is there a risk assessment in place saying you can't use the tools for the job down to mail security reasons?

It is not my duty.
The postie in question does have some steep inclines and a section that would be exempt for security reasons. That was not the point he was making though. He was saying that the use of a trolley in any part of the duty will make the duty over run. Our DOM discourages the use of trolleys with the exception of one shared split PT duty. Before this new revision anyone using a trolley and not completing was threatened with " Performance Issues "
My question is really should the DOM not clearly state (to the entire office) that the use of a trolley is RM practice and should be used where there are no exemptions.? and by threatening "performance issues" when they are used is the DOM in breach of health and safety regs.

Ask the Dom to walk the length of the delivery office without a trolley, and then the same length with a fully laden trolley. Put the odd york in the way so that he has to manouver around it. Time each pass and then show him the results.

yes and no, yes he should be insisting that the postie uses the trolley, but he might need to get the postie to buy into the idea of using it, and suggesting he gives it a try is more likely to get the postie to accept its use rather than a firm you must use it where the postie might then be set against it before he even tries it
