Zero hours-50 hours +

Post by Exforces »

Hi all. Just a few quick questions. How can Angard staff who are on a zero hour contracts, just like me be given constant shifts?, come in 3 hours early? and also work over time? at other RM places giving them 50 or 60 hours per week for weeks, months or years on end? I get one or two shifts a week if lucky and have had weeks with no work at all. I constantly called and asked to work as I'am available to cover any shift. Is it nepotism, deals with managers, back handed wink wink, favorites? How and why is this happening?

It depends really. At our place managers can specify who they want in at weekends only (I never get asked, they went round asking some people on our shift, but i work in a section where there are no Angard, so they forgot to come over to see me and I missed the chance to work on Sunday Tracked :mad ) The rest of the week managers cannot specify who they want, unless its for a very specific job that there is no Postie cover for. But with Angard its how long is a piece of string. I have been without any shifts for 10 days. I have also had a weeks work when others have got none. in fact it got to be embarrassing when the constant talk of "how many shifts you had this week" arose. That week I stopped ringing Angard after i had three days work that week but they kept ringing me, and I will not turn shifts down if i am offered them in case I get none the next week. Do not look for rhyme and reason, Angard say one thing and do another, but then so do a lot of organisations and their people. As for favourites and nepotism, well that's the way everywhere works, (at my former place of work it was the norm for people to get their family members a job, my Dad got all three of us in) No point complaining, its a waste of air. The only way to combat this if you are not one of the lucky few is try to make myself indispensable and volunteer for everything going.

Its unusual to get more than about 15 hours at our place via Angard, some people do every hour extra offered by the manager when they are on shift so when they quote "25 hours last week" it may be a lot of those hours were extra. There seems to be a "week on week off" thing going on at times with only emergency call outs in the "off" weeks. Maybe they can't dish the work out evenly as some can only work specific times of day.

I've heard it mentioned 75 Angardees regularly on an evening shift somewhere. Half a dozen is about average at our place on lates/evening, quite often none at all on earlies or days.

I guess the 50 hours a week places are really busy. I'd definitely be angry if I weren't being offered much and others were getting 50 hours.

Ok just to sum up, How is it possible that some staff work 50 or 60 hours a week on a ZERO hour contract?, every week they get a call on a Wednesday or Thursday for constant shifts and work weekends, every weekend. every weekend..... Why can managers ask for certain staff? Why are some staff getting ZERO hours and others 50 or 60? Why are some staff on constant weekend work and have a 9-5 Monday to Friday job too? ??????????????

I agree with you, it happens here as well in the North West, same people same faces who get the work, and Angard tell you that the work goes out on a fair play system. As far as I can see, Angard offices are staffed by Reed employees, who I would like to bet are not on a zero hour contract, so they don't give a dam as long as they have there weekly wage coming in. I found out this week that 2 Angard staff at my place of work have had the last 5 or 6 weeks in on the run, and have worked overtime on them shifts as well. I have worked around 15 days in the last 6 weeks with no overtime. So Angard your fair play system does not work, all it does is rub people up the wrong way. Itsajoke.

It surprises me to read that so many of you get contacted by Angard themselves. I was always called by the Linos and asked to come in. Work was off and on ofc but I think I averaged 30 or so hours a week - sometimes as few as 6 or 0 though and often 40+ - 62.5 was the highest I had.

Re: Zero hour contract? Staff on 50/60 hours+

Post by Exforces »

Itsajoke is correct. Lots of Angard ZERO hour staff (As we all are, remember?) some how get permanent FULL TIME work on the same shifts for constant weeks and months on end. Many who I have seen today come in early on shifts and get 3 HOURS extra per shift giving them an extra 15 HOURS overtime and get a full 52.5 hour week every week on a night rate £12+ per hour. £500+ gross pay per week every week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Did I say every week. Yes. Some Zero hour staff get to extend all the shifts by up to 3 hours again giving them again 15 Hours or £150 or more in overtime each week, every week, did I say every week. Some staff get weeks of constant work and also they go to other RM sites for 12 hours on a Saturday and Sunday, 24+ hours at a weekend, every weekend.
QUOTE. Section 9 Hours of Work 9.1 of yours and my Angard contract.
You have no normal hours of work, and your hours will vary according to the needs of Angard and the availability of work during an Engagement. Angard is under no obligation to provided you with work, or to provide you with a minimum number of hours of work each day or week and you are not obliged to accept any work that is offered. For the avoidance of doubt, this may result in there being days during your employment or during an Engagement where there will be no work for you to preform. However, Angard will endeavour to allocate suitable work to you when its available.

Yes! Nepotism, corruption, stupidity and perverse thinking seems to rule.

I can sort and have been told by many that my work performance as an angardee is "too high"?????????? Have been told that I shame the tired old regulars! They don't like it. UNBELIEVABLE. Should I slow down??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

Totally corrupt staffing selection procedures.
