dog bite info please ...............

im home now ,but earlier suffered a dog bite on my groin from a german shepherd it even left a tooth mark in my mobile phone case,im quite sore,but I feel lucky as I know it could of been worse,im going to my local docs shortly to see if I need a tetanus.its years since I suffered a dog bite,i am thinking of having the next 3 days of to recover as its my long weekend coming up,with it being an accident on duty will I be discounted from the absence procedure,im shortly going to fill in the Erica accident report form,the thing is I don't want to go sick for approx. 3 days and it count against me,any advice/info most welcome thanks.

The AOD won't count unless you are deemed to be responsible.
Did you knowingly enter a garden where the dog was loose? Is there a dog warning card on the frame for that dog?
That sort of thing.

It's best to get a Tetanus shot, even if it's a booster injection. Go to your local hospital/walk-in center or whatever they now deem it to now be called and get this done a.s.a.p. as it's better safe than sorry.
Also check to see if there were any warning cards etc for that residence on the walk.
If I'm correct then the Police will also need to be informed, as will your office. Action will have to be taken at an official level..

ALL dog attacks have to be reported and logged.

This will also mean that mail delivery for that address should be suspended until further notice.

No doubt someone will correct me if I'm wrong on this.

What ever else you do ,refuse to deliver to the address.I was bitten on my arm by a French mastiff and had 3 weeks off work.On return I would not deliver to their address (no matter how much they complained) and they had to pick their mail up for 12 months. Eventually they had a box put in a safe place.
It made me feel a bit better anyway.

I have been to docs had tetanus in 2008 so they said im covered im just feeling sore and shaken to be honest.i knocked on the door with a packet the chap opened door to me and the dog flew out and got me,on previous visits hes allways kept the dog away from the door,there is no dog warning card,as the dog as ALLWAYS been locked away on previous visits,if I have a minimum of 48 hours off to rest and recover,will this be lassed as an absence,why the hell should I rush back,you don't get thought off any better do you !

The law changed last month, the owner is now liable to be prosecuted even if on his property as you weren't a trespasser, there is shortly to be a mass mailing from RM informing the public of this, make sure it is reported to the Police and goes in the accident book. It won't count as a stage or sickness. Make sure the CWU are involved and the bloke is sued, his house insurance will cover his costs usually - if not any compensation will be deducted from his benefits via a sequestration order if he can't/won't pay.

thanks for info, union rep has told me to register it with the DWP as an industrial accident and fill in an LS3 claim form,can anybody shed any light on this what it all means im lost with it

all properties with dogs should be registered, regardless if they are locked away or not

ERICA is similar to an online accident book with more detail. LS3 is simple but detailed CWU claim form which then is forwarded to the CWU solicitors which means you get fee-free services via the CWU.
